Disharmony at Giants camp

As the Giants took the field for the first time in the post-Michael Strahan era, it was the absence of two other stars that threatened the team's harmony and quickly dimmed its championship glow. Plaxico Burress said that he was plenty healthy to play but would not practice without a new contract. Although he has three years left on the deal he signed in 2005, he has seen other top receivers sign more lucrative deals this off-season. Tight end Jeremy Shockey, who missed the Super Bowl run with a broken leg and asked for a trade this off-season, came to the minicamp but stayed indoors while other injured players watched workouts from the practice field sideline.

Shockley is the biggest freak show there is in the NFL. Bigger than TO and Ocho and Bingo was his name-o. The Giants....got lucky. The Patriots got some smoke then they got choked. It does not pay to cheat and to whine in the NFL. Big babies........

I agree, to win the superbowl everything must fall your way. The giants are not that good. They will be 9-7. If they don't have burress they have nothing. All of the sudden Eli will really be exposed.

this disharmonic moment brought to you by the NJ GIANTS.

June 12, 2008  06:33 AM ET

Doesn't this just make you hate both sports and professional athletes. People accross this country are losing their home at alarming rates and these guys are making millions.

June 12, 2008  06:39 AM ET

You knew this was coming. It does on losing teams, so you have to know it will on the NFL Champions.
In todays market he is underpaid. The Giants have a history of redoing contracts, so I expect they will here. It is a question of how much. The problem is they are trying to lock up Snee also.
It will get done. He is one of the top five WRs in the game.
For the record, since 2005 Eli Manning and Burress have connected on more TDs than and other QB WR combination in the game ( 29). And as Casey used to say, " You could look it up."

Poor Plaxio, he needs to feed his family

June 12, 2008  07:11 AM ET

Plaxico risked it all in the Super Bowl playing with bum knee. He deserves more money but a signed contract is a signed contract and should the Giants not give him a new one he should show up and play.

HAHAH! We had more drama last year with Strahan.

Nothing matters once you get on the field.

Hayters!

June 12, 2008  07:28 AM ET

The only drama is the media making all these mountains out of molehills.

Wow.. go figure.. now who woulda thunk it ?

3 years left on a 6 year 25 million dollar contract..8 mil signing bonus..
Just another putz in a long line of them this season it seems

June 12, 2008  07:48 AM ET

Boo Hoo, Boo Hoo. These players are sickening and I???m thinking about giving up my love for football as I have for baseball and basketball. These players want long term, multi-million dollar contracts - Long term for security. All of a sudden they have a good year???okay great year and now they want more money. Forget they signed a long term contract! Someone didn???t have a year as good as me and now they are giving him more money --- I want more money.

Owners, stick to your guns and do not renegotiate! If the players do not want to play with the contract they agreed to then send them home without money.

Players if you want to increase your salary whenever you want then only sign for one or two years.

There is a happy medium: Owners and Players sign long-term contracts based on performance. You can get a lot for a good year, more for great year and less for poor year and lesser for a real bad year. I'm sure the owners would appreciate this type of contract but the players would never agree.

By the way, players have profit sharing...is there a loss sharing also???????

June 12, 2008  07:51 AM ET

probably worth what he's asking for but he's gotta go too. him and shockey. if they don't play giants shouldn't pay! what the hell is up with these guys!!
and its funny to hear from all the naysayers that the giants got lucky. knocking off one by one the best teams in the league is not luck! we got hot at the right time. our QB played mistake free football at the right time. and they are world champions.......period!!

June 12, 2008  08:13 AM ET

Wonder if the Giants will play hardball with him like the Bengals did with Chad Johnson. Though Johnson and Buress have different motivations, neither wants to fulfill his contractual obligations. Oughtta be interesting.

June 12, 2008  08:14 AM ET

Where's the Giants fan that was saying that this "kind" of story doesn't happen to the Giants? That they don't air their dirty laundry.

June 12, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Maybe he is sick of high gas prices and gushing immoral Republicans like the one above me.
