Shaq's latest reality show idea

He has dubbed himself Superman, the Diesel, the Big Aristotle and Shaq-Fu among other nicknames. If Shaquille O'Neal's latest proposed venture works out, he might also become known as the Big Fannie Mae. O'Neal told the Orlando Sentinel that he wanted to help people facing foreclosure on their homes. "I want to come in not to kick them out, but to work with them and save them so they can stay in their homes," O'Neal said during a visit to Orlando City Hall. Attorney Mark NeJame told the Sentinel that O'Neal wants to buy the mortgages of homeowners who have slipped into foreclosure because of high interest rates. The Phoenix Suns center would sell the homes back with more affordable terms, hoping to make a small profit. O'Neal remains conscious of opportunity: According to the Sentinel, he would like to develop a TV reality show based on his Orlando project and call it " Shaq's Big Save," a sequel to a 2007 weight-loss show, " Shaq's Big Challenge."

how about shaq's big attempt to learn to shoot free throws.

June 12, 2008  07:20 AM ET

I know this a good idea to help people. But do you really get excited about wanting to watch this on TV?

Seems to me that Shaq needs more time in front of the camera.

I'm totally in favor of helping people, but c'mon man, a TV show about it?

June 12, 2008  07:49 AM ET

Its cool that he wants to help people, but it doesnt seem genuine .. If he REALLY wanted to help people, it wouldnt need to be televised !

June 12, 2008  07:53 AM ET

what a god awful idea

Exactly !! That's the "Big Challenge" for Shaq himself.
He has the rest of his life to host TV shows. Why can't he spend more time on his free throws since he only has a couple years left in his NBA career?

How about trying to come into camp at under 390 ?

June 12, 2008  08:59 AM ET

or how bout taking off that ugly jockey's jersey.......you look ridiculous shaq-fu!!

June 12, 2008  09:00 AM ET

It's funny that Vitamin Water would have Shaq as a jockey. Jockeys are like one fourth the weight of Shaq. Imagine for real a damn near 400 pound man riding a horse? Funny.

June 12, 2008  09:01 AM ET

Shaq needs to participate in his own weight loss shows. He needs to drop some pounds to be effective.

Here's a reality show idea:

"A fat overrated Center spends the summer not working on his game, his free throws or his post defense after getting thumped in the first round of the playoffs. This Center also is known for ripping the organizations that paid him large sums of money to be a 3 quarter player because his fat arse can't shoot free throws in the 4th quarter of pivotal playoff games. We could also throw in how when he left Orlando, Los Angeles AND Miami how he blasted the very teams who treated him well and last but not least, his underlying jealousy for dynamic shooting guards who have to pick up the slack because he's a 4th quarter liability?"

Oops, I'm sorry that's been done, it's called Shaq's career.

June 12, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Shaq is a good guy all around. I dont know if I get him putting it on TV, but if he used the proceeds from a TV show for something good like charity, then I'd be all for it and probably tune in.

June 12, 2008  09:34 AM ET

vaughn9 - no doubt.....why doesn't he spend his offseason shooting free throws, instead of this stupid stuff?

June 12, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Hey How about "Shaq loses 40 lb, play some defense and hit a free throw once a week reality show"...we'll call the 2008/2009 NBA season!!!!

No offense, I like Shaq but if you're truly intent on "helping" people, do it because it comes from your heart, not for publicity reasons. His entire career he's done things and always had them taped for the media. Christmas in L.A.'s poor neighborhoods, Thanksgiving in Miami, etc. Helping other while helping your own image isn't quite the mentality of a person intent on helping others.

June 12, 2008  10:08 AM ET

who said that it wasnt the sponsors idea...d.a.m.n jessie...your hate is spilling over...and I can smell it....the man is helping people...how ignorant r u??...shaq doesnt have to do anything...he could go sit on a yacht and eat grapes all day if he wanted to...he has played in the nba for 16 yrs...magic and bird only played 12 and 13....relax man.......relax

June 12, 2008  10:10 AM ET

shaq shoots free throws like they are comming from a howitzer. he has been in the league long enough to have made some progress. Paying 20 million for a man who can not hit a open, unguarded 15' shot with 10 seconds to do it at least 65 % of the time. that is the sad part. and he calls him self a pro.

June 12, 2008  10:42 AM ET

I think his inability to shoot free throws is as much pyschological as it is mechanical.

I've always thought he should shoot them from the top of the key in practice. He needs to develop a softer touch. Finesse not muscle. I've heard he's tried a hundred different things to fix the shot. Maybe the NBA uses "kyptonite" paint on the foul lines.

As far as the mortgage idea, I'm not in foreclosure but I wished he'd do it for me. Maybe I pay two points and get a 2.0% loan?

June 12, 2008  10:48 AM ET

antonio
What??? Ignorant?? Dude, go away man. All I said was that his actions are always great but I don't agree with him always putting it out in the media. He's a good guy with a great heart. His actions speak for themselves but why the ned to profit from "giving"?

June 12, 2008  10:57 AM ET

...and I thought that Shaq was working hard on his conditioning for next season.

Sigh!

June 12, 2008  11:02 AM ET

I think Shaq should "face reality" and retire !!!
