Hometown football star LeCharles Bentley walked away from his lifelong dream of playing for the Browns on because it just didn't feel like a dream anymore. Jonathan Feinsod, Bentley's agent, said Bentley came back to play an integral role for the Browns, "but it's evident they've made commitments to other players, and LeCharles is not ready to be an insurance policy at this point." Bentley, who would have competed at both center and guard, said he thought he could have won a starting job if given the chance. Browns coach Romeo Crennel said he would have given Bentley the same shot as everyone else.

Sounds like Bentley got sour to the idea of being a backup after all his injuries.

June 13, 2008  08:09 AM ET

i can't wait. you know, when reality hits and bizzaro world is over. the browns will be back to being the browns. this franchise has as much shot making the playoffs next year, as vick has getting peta's man of the year

LeCharles, now that's a cool name. How come none of the white kids I grew up with never had a name like that?

June 13, 2008  09:06 AM ET

I just want to know .. what the hell is the thought process that these mothers go through when they name their children?
LeCharles??

June 13, 2008  10:15 AM ET

I'm just stunned that this clown can be out for two years with injuries and think
he'll instantly be a starter when he's cleared to start practicing!

June 13, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Another T&R butchery. The "actual" story is that although he passed his physical, the Browns had Bentley run a 40, and he ran in the 7-8 second range (much slower than a lot of the readership on FanNation, unheardof in the NFL for ANY position). In his first practice back with the team, he was running as a backup guard, didn't have the stamina to finish the practice, and ended the day.... taking snaps from other Browns' centers. Bentley met with coaches, asked for his release, and it was a mutual parting-of-ways.

And KP - why just be Charles when you can be THE Charles.

^ that was that new thing called sarcasm, if it didn't come through well enough.

June 13, 2008  11:41 AM ET

So he'll take some time and work his way back into proper shape and come right back and be his dominant self from before. People forget he was one of the most dominant young linemen in the NFL before his injury.

June 13, 2008  12:34 PM ET

This story emphasizes that pro sports is business, and the players are a commodity, regardless of from where you come. Good luck to LeCharles, and I hope he gets back to his potential. Hey, a name is a name. Who has the right to criticize?

June 13, 2008  01:13 PM ET

LeCharles, ummm
Le Douglas, LeMicheal, LeThomas,

LeCorneilus, yah that;s the ticket!

June 13, 2008  02:03 PM ET

A mother has every right to ruin her childs life from Day 1 if she wants to! Besides, do we really need another Jacob/Hunter/Tanner ... ?

June 13, 2008  02:28 PM ET

No, but how about LeJacob, LeHunter, or LeTanner?

June 13, 2008  02:31 PM ET

Too bad his career is going down LeToilet. If he really ran an 8 second 40, then maybe cedric benson can help him get a job at Burger King.

June 13, 2008  02:47 PM ET

It's the Browns...who cares?

June 13, 2008  02:49 PM ET

"Maybe the Vikings will pick him off and complete the circle in their new hexagon of truth... or was that rhombus of accountability? Maybe it was parallelogram of conviction.... I don't quite remember.

Anyway, Moss has been gone for what? 4 years? Plenty of time for the rubes to forget about the whole cleaning up the ship routine. They should take a flier on ..." LeCharles Bentley. "He'd look awesome in that new neon pink/purple uniform Ziggy makes them wear."

Browns are dull.

June 13, 2008  03:10 PM ET

"LeToilet".......funniest thing I've read in a long time!

June 13, 2008  06:05 PM ET

Dropping the kids off at "LeToilet"

June 13, 2008  07:32 PM ET

well you have to actually take the feild to hold your job and place on the team.

June 13, 2008  08:25 PM ET

bentley, all yoiu have to do is prove yourself worthy, right now you are not doing that.

June 13, 2008  10:56 PM ET

He doesn't have to prove or do anything. He was paid $16 mil over the last two years without question or taking a snap. The Browns owe him nada. He can walk away and have a wonderful life selling insurance...or houses...or any drama people will buy. Nice gig! ...sorry no more time to write more...I've got to go to work.

June 14, 2008  03:28 AM ET

too bad since he would definitely be an improvement over fraley if he was healthy... this is kinda a non story, but if the 8 second thing is true, that would be a bigger story than this. I'm surprised Bentley would be so agreeable to walking away from that contract since he sure as hell isn't going to get $6M a year in his next deal.
