Vols guard injured in pickup game

Tennessee basketball player Ryan Childress will undergo knee surgery next week after getting hurt playing pickup basketball, the university announced Thursday. The severity of the injury was not disclosed. Childress, a 6-9 senior forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, averaged 2.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. "His return will be determined by his progress following the surgery," school officials said in a statement.

Sounds like he was just a role player. Probably would have been used more this year but not a huge loss like T. Simth or Chism.

How in the world will they be able to overcome the loss of his numbers?

The lead-in to this story refers to Childress as a guard. Someone at CNN/SI needs to learn the difference between a guard and a FORWARD. There aren't many 6 - 9 guards playing college basketball.
