No team claims Benson off waivers

The rest of the NFL apparently agrees with the Bears regarding Cedric Benson. He just isn't worth the risk. The deadline for teams to claim Benson off waivers passed Thursday with none of the 31 other NFL teams interested in picking up the final two years of Benson's contract, a league source confirmed. Clearing waivers gives Benson the chance to sign with any team in the league, but that might be difficult to do with pending legal troubles that might lead to league discipline.

Another career bites the dust...and another one gone...etc.

June 13, 2008  06:20 AM ET

And this surprises, who?

June 13, 2008  06:45 AM ET

I'm shocked..surprised.

June 13, 2008  06:45 AM ET

Well, chalk him up as another Chicago Bears RB bust!!! Forte is next!

June 13, 2008  07:54 AM ET

Wait a minute... Al Davis must be in Mynamar then.

June 13, 2008  08:07 AM ET

i wouldn't take benson for my upper central southern eastern brothers of the immaculate conception western university football team. one thing, he could sure teach everyone how to do a mean keg stand and play some beer pong.

June 13, 2008  08:08 AM ET

I think Vick's prison team is looking for a RB. He'd probably fit in nicely....

June 13, 2008  08:29 AM ET

Hey Cedric, the Ottawa Rough Riders are on the phone, they want to talk to you, Heh?

June 13, 2008  08:32 AM ET

You can put your boat on the Rideau Canal.

June 13, 2008  09:04 AM ET

He'll probably get signed.. for a year.. noone wanted the liability of a 2 yr contract.. some team will sign him with a contingency clause pending the legal or league issues.

June 13, 2008  09:10 AM ET

WOW!!!! The local news had a story about the city police arresting a gangbanger and he looked just like this dude.

June 13, 2008  09:46 AM ET

I hear McDonalds is hiring. Maybe he can play on the inter murals team.

June 13, 2008  09:54 AM ET

To think I traded for this moron in my dynasty league last year. What the he!! was I thinking???

June 13, 2008  10:13 AM ET

HE GONE!! HE BE DONE!!!

What an f*ing idiot! He p*issed it all down the drain! I knew he was trouble when the Bears drafted him and he refused, holding out for more money! Unfortunately, the Bears gave him what he wanted. Big mistake! If they didn't, we wouldn't be talking about this dumb loser now!

June 13, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Or, he can have a garage sale, 50yearfan! And, he's too slow for the CFL! LOL!

June 13, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Dallas will pick him up. He can room with Tank Johnson and the 2 Bears castoffs can catch up on old times again. Benson is a worthless piece of dog poop. I hope he never plays again in this league.

June 13, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Maybe Cedric should call Barry Bonds for advice about being unwanted!

June 13, 2008  10:17 AM ET

I have to give the Bears credit. Not many teams cut a first round pic. They always come up with some humanitarian reason for not doing the right thing. Some never do. Pacman and many others like him stay with a team until the league steps in at some point. You can say it was because he did not produce, but still, it was good to see the Bears take a stand.
