NCAA questions Mayo accuser

Investigators from the NCAA and Pacific 10 Conference and officials from USC have met with Louis Johnson to discuss his allegations that a sports agency funneled money to basketball star O.J. Mayo through an intermediary before and during his one season at USC. Johnson has accused Bill Duffy Associates of providing about $250,000 in cash and benefits to Mayo advisor Rodney Guillory, who funneled an estimated $30,000 of that to Mayo beginning when he was in high school and during his freshman season at USC. Mayo allegedly received a flat-screen TV, clothing, cellphone service, meals at restaurants such as Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles and the use of a Hermosa Beach hotel room. It is a misdemeanor in California for agents to provide cash or other benefits to college athletes.

I am sure my 4 year old niece would do a better job of investigating USC than the NCAA. My non working left testicle has more credibility than the NCAA. NCAA=Notably Corrupt Arrogant Aholes. Thank god the FBI/IRS is getting involved as they will have the power to make people talk/cry for leniency.

There is stink here.......

If the NCAA ever gets to the facts it will be another 2 or 3 years, look at the Reggie Bush incident, they still don't have it right

"Oh what a tangled web we weave...!"

of course the NCAA and Pac10 and USC will turn their guns on the accuser rather than go after the kid who took all the money and gifts as if they just appeared from Heaven -- Mayo knew or should have know the rules from Day1 of his quest for NBA millions -- he should not be allowed to reap the rewards when he knowingly broke the rules which other NBAhopefuls did follow. of course, all this publicity should lead to an NBA MVP award for Mayo -- look at Kobe!

"...... meals at restaurants such as Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles ......"

I mean you risked besmirching your name on Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles ?

June 13, 2008  01:09 PM ET

Just follow the paper trail!

June 13, 2008  01:19 PM ET

jgb - youre so right. there's a morton's and plenty of other good restaurants just down Fig.

Hillary - do you hate your life? every post you make is negative.

It is a misdemeanor in California for agents to provide cash or other benefits to college athletes.

Hmmm - something tells me that in this new age of one-and-done kids we'll see a flood of California based agents if they only get a slap on the wrist in exchange for million dollar endorsements.

I'm not saying OJ was on the take but after the U$C vs UW game he dropped his water bottle and I handed it back to him ... he tipped me $50.00 !!!

hahaha

That said, the NCAA and NBA are equal partners to the sleazy agents in developing this mess. U$C is a lot of things, most of them evil ( as a Bruin :) but they are not much different than any other Div.1 school ... they are just one of the highest profile schools and draw a lot of attention.

More blame must fall onto the NCAA and Stern's shoulders.

June 13, 2008  03:16 PM ET

Every person I know named OJ is guilty.

June 13, 2008  05:35 PM ET

And you think this isn't happening at all major colleges in the world? He may have gotten money handed to him, would you take it? Think before you answer. There are other items of note such as shootings, rapes, etc...... I hope you get just as worked up when these things happen on your campus of choice.
HILLARY, I followed the paper trail.....it was going up the leg of your pantsuit.
All campuses have money problems. Yes, let's fix it. But, let's also try to stop the violent crimes commited by those you support.

June 13, 2008  05:48 PM ET

Chicken and Waffles? A jedi craves not these things.

June 13, 2008  06:09 PM ET

your green....not black........

June 13, 2008  06:17 PM ET

Roscoe's chicken is pretty darn good. And so are the waffles. Maybe there is something about smokin a lot of pot that one gets a craving for those two. I wouldn't know cuz I don't smoke pot but i am just saying...

June 13, 2008  09:28 PM ET

MARINsur4, just what did you find negative about my comment? There will be a paper trail of these accusations. Credit cards, cell phones, and hotels all document their services, don't they? WELL, DON'T THEY?

June 13, 2008  09:47 PM ET

I actually have no problem if Mayo got $.....
- so long ans he isn't throwing games-

these kids have a tiny window of opportunity to earn $ in their lives
if someone is willing to give them $ to go to a certain school or endorse a certain product.......why shouldn't they be allowed to do so?

The schools CERTAINLY make a ton of $ off of the kid-
yeah they get a 'free' education......but we're talking REAL $

June 14, 2008  11:28 PM ET

Not every school does it, and that doesn't make it right.....at least it shouldn't.
