Bavetta rumors don't concern Stern
Commissioner David Stern restated his unwavering support for his referees on Thursday and said he was not concerned that at least one referee, Dick Bavetta, had been the subject of inquiries by federal agents. Hue Hollins, a retired referee, told The New York Times on Wednesday that two agents from New York visited him last summer and asked about Bavetta and Tim Donaghy , the disgraced referee who has admitted to working with gamblers.

the fix is now in. bavetta worked with jordan to prevent barkley from winning the title. no wonder, barkley challenged him to a race.
conspiracy theories are simply theories that keep crazy people busy.

normally when rumors and things like this start there is at least a little truth to it.

Well, there you have it. No problem.
Stern said there's nothing to it. End of story if he says so, right? I mean...it doesn't matter that the Major League Baseball bigshots said they didn't have problems for years. Or that track and field has been ruined and medals taken back. Or that pro bicycling is now just a sham of it's former self.
Basketball is different, right? Because Stern says so.

I would really love to see Stern take this a remotely bit seriously. It's obviously a big deal, so don't sit threw the press conference with a dumb looking grin on your face acting like no one can touch you.

If this was just totally untrue and the league was being accused of things like this and the FBI was investigating it Stern would take it very seriously
If it is true he doen't want to bring too much attention to it by taking it seriously.

I normally am not a big conspiracy guy. I do know though that when you are falsely accused of something you are very outspoken about it letting everybody know... when you are rightly accused you play it off like no big deal and try to keep it very quiet.

Yeah, and the ckeck is in the mail, OJ was set up, and the NBA referees call them as they see them. I'm not one that believes the league is "fixed," but I also do not believe that Donahy was a "lone gunman."

Larry B,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I always knew the B was for basketball and the A was for association. I always thought the N was for something else. My bad.

This is such a sad story about the NBA. It's such a wonderful, wholesome image these gentlmen portray. Something all white people can relate to.

Oh well, here we go. Just like in another T&R thread this morning, "thepatriotscheated" is ready to get everyone mad and take it to a lower level. Only this time on a thread about the NBA refs, it's the race card about white people that you pull out.
You're going to talk about a league that has more players, coaches, GM's, etc. of different races and play that card? Stupid is as stupid does. You've turned everyone against you on the other posts with your rantings, you gotta hit this one? Go change your pad...it's wet.

I kind of wonder what the point is to even have something like this as news. What do people expect him to say? "Oh, I'm very nervous they might find something but I think I've covered my tracks. I put out a hit on a couple of other refs before they get to them".. Of course not! I was at Worldcom when the rumors of fraud hit and I heard the tune of, "There is nothing wrong. The company is fine and they will find nothing. They can look all they want but there is nothing to find." If I'm correct then Bernie Ebbers (CEO) is still in prison.

where there is smoke, there is fire.....just look at the game last nite...man its so obvious....the first half, one team gets all of the calls...the second half the other team has the advantage...its almost like its designed drama....more and more information keeps coming out now...bavetta is crooked...you'll see....and there will be more that are dirty....if donaghy was a " lone maverick" like stern would like us to believe. some other honest ref would have questioned some of his calls before...naw..they knew...and the league will suffer..

whats amazing to me, more than this story itself is the number of people I see day in and day out on this site, claiming its a non story, that its all media hype, that theres no proof etc etc etc..
and these were and are the EXACT same people who - in spite of there being NO evidence, and in fact proof that they didnt, claim the Patriots taped the Rams walkthrough. The same exact people who, in spite of being told by the actual person who did the taping, that the tapes never left his possession during a game and were never used IN the game at hand, are still hurling stupid insults at the Patriots.
Just goes to show you, you NEED to be angry at the Patriots because they're so good.. and any reason to justify your own teams inadequacies is what works for you.
Carry on
