Low expectations means less stress and job security! Good for you Maturi. How could someone turn down what would be a huge promotion and a chance to work for their alma mater?

June 13, 2008  08:19 AM ET

in other words maturi... i know i don't have the game to get the job, so i will put my name out there like i'm a hot commodity just to get some press run.

irish fans are happy because it gives their otherwise hapless existence on college football's mediocrity list, some kind of national relevance. ... yeah stir the thunder indeed.

June 13, 2008  08:20 AM ET

or stir the echoes shake the thunder... whatever, it was.

"If they call, I'm going to tell them, 'Thank you, but I love what I'm doing.'

That's a very BIG IF, Joel. I mean, ok you're an AD at a big 11 school, and you went to ND. What else makes you a good fit? Nothing really jumps off the page. So enjoy MN. Best of luck.

I wouldn't want to live in Indiana either.

June 13, 2008  01:09 PM ET

Free masons and catholics are a heady mix indead.

June 13, 2008  06:45 PM ET

Indiana is a great state to live in. Almost everyone is polite.

June 13, 2008  08:53 PM ET

Polite my ***, when we went to visit my cousens in Fort Wayne, Indiana, we got our car stolen!

June 13, 2008  09:02 PM ET

But the man who stole our car was very polite, and he even let us get our bags out of the back before he drove off...

By the way your name and that picture ****.

Hey PS forever,

Thats gay, you can't say a-r-e gay, but you can say is gay

June 14, 2008  03:02 AM ET

ND fans/students/alumni think they are better than everyone else. If something doesnt go their way, they make excuses like with recruits if the said recruit doesnt commit then they say the recruit was not good enough or how dare the AD turn down the such an offer if presented with it.
Like the joke goes:
How do you know if the person is a ND alumn? They will tell you!

That's really quite a silly joke there Daxangel. But you are correct in that we will tell you...but that's because we 're proud of it...what 'er you proud of? Not much, heh?

June 14, 2008  07:00 AM ET

Daxangel, all hating aside, are you actually implying that moving from the AD position at MN to ND would not be a step up? You cannot possibly be serious. For as much as the golden domer faithful are given a hard time for the way they are perceived to act by those who hate ND, anyone who would not see this as a rather large promotion for Mr. Maturi needs to look in the mirror. You will see hypocrisy facing back at you!

June 14, 2008  10:52 AM ET

The Golden Gophers are building the new stadium, and have a coach who can recruit the players necessary to win. Prediction: the Golden Gophers will be in a better bowl game this upcoming season than the Irish. Step further: the Golden Gophers will be ranked in the top 20 before the Irish.

Oh, and aparently Joel Maturi DIDN'T see it as a "ratherlarge promotion". And by the way, the AD isn't an AD for just football, so pull your green head out of your bum and check out the job Maturi has done with all of the other sports. Have they heard of Tubby Smith in Indiana? Oh, and compare the GPA's of all Minnesota athletes to those of ND athletes.

Living in Minneapolis is far superior to living in South Bend especially if one still has kids needing to attend worthwhile schools.

Maturi made the right decision. He's already well compensated.

SI puts skimpy articles like this out to stir the pot. The only reason I read these stupid articles is so I can read all the **** Notre Dame haters write.

June 14, 2008  03:23 PM ET

And I am sure that the only reason a lot of people open these links is too talk trash about a school they could never get into

June 14, 2008  03:49 PM ET

I'm thinking he didn't get the call - and won't - and so is "withdrawing" his name from consideration.

June 15, 2008  01:24 AM ET

Notre Dame isnt too good in anything but Football. Although Hockey has improved.
