Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos could complicate Inter Milan's negotiations to sign Joaquin by trying to persuade the Valencia winger that the English Premier League would suit him better than Serie A.

Joaquin needs a fresh start and, to be honest, his star has lost enough shine in the last two years that I am surprised Inter is even interested. With Mourinho at the helm, Inter will focus on Deco, Lampard in addition to the guys they already have like Figo. Inter might claim interest, but I would expect them to sit Joaquin or loan him out immediately.

Spurs would be a good fit as the need an experienced, creative midfielder and Juande knows Joaquin as well as anyone.

Eto'o's comments about the Spurs may have been a bit tough to swallow, but there is an element of truth to them. Spurs need to focus on cracking the top 6 with consistency and developing a team with strong chemistry. Simply going after big names with big price tags is a mistake.

This could be a good match though. Joaquin needs to rehab his career and he is a big enough name that Ramos can convince others that White Hart Lane is a viable option.

I have to agree with you there Gaucho. I'd love to see Joaquin at The Lane and hope Ramos can pull the trigger on it. The more new midfielders in the starting 11 this upcoming year for Spurs, the better. I dont want to see Jenas or Zokora anywhere but on the bench.

Those words from Eto'o did hurt, but were truthful -- I'm just hoping that with the signings of Dos Santos and Modric will show enough intent for Berbs to decide to stay put. Spurs still need to sign a DM, CB, and 2 GK's by the end of the window as well.

Huh? What did they say???

What does this mean for Aaron Lennon? Joaquin and Lennon play the same position, unless you want to switch one of them to the other side

I think they need to improve in other positions first

June 13, 2008  11:56 AM ET

The only thing Lennon seems to do well is run past people. Afterwards, his crosses are sub-par. I would take Joaquin over Lennon though..but I agree - Need to improve in the other positions first.

Doubt this will happen. Joaquin has stated that he would not want to leave Spain. He's had the chance to join Arsenal and Chelsea while at Betis

June 13, 2008  01:06 PM ET

Liverpool made an offer for Joaquin in 2005/6 and lost out and as 'Big Chaco' has said he had the chance to go to Arsenal as well. It seems the draw of the Premier League didn't work. Although with Liverpool and Man U winning Europe recently he can't shrug off the Premier League for long.

As a Liverpool fan the thought of Joaquin and the new 22 year old Croatian sensation pairing up at The Lane is a scary thought.

June 13, 2008  02:29 PM ET

Yeah I agree Big Chaco Joaquin has no intensions of leaving Spain but there maybe a chance that Juan De Ramos can persuade him to move.

June 13, 2008  04:25 PM ET

Got to agree with Big Chaco here. This guy doesn't leave Spain. He turned down opportunities in the past.

June 13, 2008  04:26 PM ET

Aaron Lennon is just a guy with speed. He doesn't do anything at all except run by people. Can't finish, can't deliver a good cross...nothing. Tottenham would be better served by upgrading on his position, but not through Joaquin.

Maybe Shaun Wright-Phillips?

SWP i have a feeling wouldnt play for the spuds b/c of his father being who he is, I wish SWP would have never left us from his loan spell a few years ago.

Its funny how amazing he did in the middle of the park for Man city that next year and now he is on the bench and playing winger, he has learned the game and now it is time for Villa to step up and make a move if they sell Barry

June 13, 2008  06:26 PM ET

man tottenham is having a great offseason in my opinion if they can hook Joaquin. The best if they land this man. Modric, Dos Santos, and Joaquin would be wild to see over the next 2-3 yrs. Couple young stellar players. Dos Santos could be an elite attacking mid in that time. Modric another great ballhandler, but also joaquin the vet who can tear down the wing. Hotspurs are putting together an awesome attack.

I'm not really high on Joaquin. Lots of hype but he's a real cancer in a locker-room. If the Spurs want a right winger, they should go after Jesus Navas, who blossomed while playing for Juande in Sevilla.

June 14, 2008  03:01 PM ET

Jesus Navas is brilliant and younger than Joaquin at 22

June 14, 2008  03:03 PM ET

Lennon is a fine dribbler, hard to get, and 21

He still has years to improve his crossing and finishing, i can't believe people are giving up on him

He reminds me of Ronaldo when he first arrived at United, around the same age, he just ran by players all day, and that was it

June 14, 2008  03:04 PM ET

Man Utd tried to land Joaquin after Becks left and couldn't grab him

I'm happy cause we got ronaldo instead

June 15, 2008  07:44 AM ET

As mercurial as Joaquin is; I'd really like to see him refashion himself into a top-tier footballer. He certainly has the tools and Juande has had experience getting tough-guys to buy in and to collaborate with a team.

June 15, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Jesus Navas apparently has this mental problem that he can't leave home (home as in Sevilla particularly, not just Spain); that's why he hasn't left Sevilla; I personally think Diego Capel is the best winger out of Andalucia right now

June 15, 2008  09:59 PM ET

WOW chronic homesickness, he can't leave seville

June 15, 2008  10:00 PM ET

maybe thats why he hasnt had a spain call up?
