Rivers defends Garnett's offense

Celtics coach Doc Rivers defended Kevin Garnett, who has come under fire for his lack of offense in the series. Entering Game 4, Garnett was averaging 18 points per game, but shooting just 35.5 percent from the field. He went 6 for 21 in Game 3. Last night he was 7 of 14, contributing 16 points and 11 rebounds. "I liken him a little bit to Patrick Ewing. Playing for the Knicks, I remember everyone complaining that Patrick Ewing took too many jump shots," said Rivers. "I used to laugh. Well, he made most them, so why shouldn't he take them?"

Even an old man Doc Rivers can defend Garnett's offense in key moments.

Sorry for the caps here but:

I THINK PHIL JACKSON IS BEING OUTCOACHED BY DOC RIVERS!

June 13, 2008  08:51 AM ET

Aren't Rivernd Garnett up 3-1 in this series?

June 13, 2008  08:52 AM ET

Who cares, Garnett carried them to the finals, about time some others showed up. Definitely a team effort in this series.

June 13, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Sorry! Aren't Rivers and Garnett up 3-1 in this series? Why does he feel he has to explain anything about his team's play? It may no longer be LOVELY IN LAKERLAND, but it sure is nice from where I stand.

June 13, 2008  08:59 AM ET

The Lakers let the game get away last night -- this will ultimately cost them the series ... NBA Champs will be on the "Right Coast" this year. Lakers need to understand #24 cannot bail the team out all the time.

I cautioned Laker Nation months ago against planning that parade. If they still want to attend one however, United has great rates to Boston.

LOL! At least I get to sit back and have a chuckle at those who had all of the loud mouth arrogant junk I've had to read since before the playoffs started. This is why I don't rub things in or boast about how lovely it is to be a ____ fan.
Now I think back to all the talks of the new DYNASTY that the Lakers would start this year. Well, you have to win a championship first. Maybe they will start it next year, maybe not. Kobe may be the best player on the planet right now but he isn't the best TEAM player. He never has been. Take a look at Garnett and you will see someone who makes his whole team better instead of just racking up points for himself.
Must be LOVELY in Lakerland.... lol...

while i think KG is an outstandingly unique player that pretty much fills it up. i can understand some the critism about KG's game. for a a 7 footer to play away from the basket so much, is a little puzzling to me. KG is most effective when scoring in the paint as it would be for any 7 footer. quite honestly i think KG plays a little too passive, he hurts his team on occasions when he passes the ball even to a open teammate. he should draw the contact and go to the line whenever that opportunity presents itself. because ultimately this puts pressure on the defense with foul trouble and ft's. granted his fga % is really good for 7 foot jumpshooter but to me he is most effective when in the paint and attacking the basket.

Al_Cheese -- all has to do with the mediating process ... and as you have mentioned, it appears the #24 is lacking!

yea, without a doubt. i could go on about #24 as well. he has not played the way he typically plays.....really from the UTA series with the exception of the game they won. but i'll save that for the another thread.
