Former Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter was examined in St. Louis on Friday after experiencing renewed discomfort in his surgically repaired right elbow and is likely to seek a second opinion regarding his condition soon.Carpenter returned to St. Louis to be seen by team medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta after becoming increasingly concerned about what he was feeling following a Wednesday side session at the club's minor-league complex in Jupiter, Fla.

Nice try but as they say -"stick a fork in you - you're done" !!!

I didn't expect to see him back this year if ever. They still aren't talking about the arthritis he has in that elbow.

Sadly I do think he's finished. He's a tough cookie but everyone has their limits. Arthritis in the elbow is what caused Koufax to retire at age 30 after having the best 4 years baseball had ever seen.

Clement, Mulder and Carpenter are not to be seen again in my opinion. It's time to trade some of the young outfielders and Brian Anderson for another starter or two. We have 5; but, you need 6 or 7 to really compete. Starters are always dropping like flies. It's the nature of the position. I don't think Wellemeyer is healthy now. He's only out there because we're out of starters.

Sadly a great start by the Redbirds is all for nothing with all the new injuries coming up and none of the pitchers (Mulder, Carpenter, Clement, etc.) coming back. Izzy pulling a Mark Wohlers doesn't help either. Edmonds is looking good for the Cubs though!

Edmonds will continue to look good as long as Pinella uses him very carefully.

The Cardinals just keep on getting bad news, huh?

this sucks

Not good news.... I was pessimistically optimistic that we could see Carp back this year. He is such a great competitor and bulldog.....this team could really use him. I see they say Mulder could pitch in the majors soon, but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't know how big a setback this is, but with Wellemeyer hurting, we may be in a tough situation soon with our rotation.
