How come during the Stanley Cup Finals, all of the media attention was on Crosby and the Pens. Clearly the Red Wings are the most exciting and skilled team in the NHL to watch and guys like Zetterburg, Datsuk, and Lidstrom never got much attention?

I would think that Detroit fans would have been a little more ticked. VS and NBC were horrible. I wish NBC would fire Mike Milbury.

I wish the NHL would promote Ovechkin more as well. I'll watch the Caps play just to see this guy. He is soooooooooo much better than Crosby.

Why would we as Wings fans be upset? I like Milbury. The only one I wish they'd can is the cue ball between the benches. He's about as wishy washy as I've ever seen.

As for the attention of the press...the Wings don't look for all that hype. I'm not saying that the Pens do, it just gets thrown on them. I think Crosby handles all that crap pretty well for a guy his age. You seem to be under the impression that these guys are like NBA or NFL players...."put me on TV". I don't think either team would have been the least bit upset if they didn't have to do interviews at all.

my only beef with the league re. lidstrom is that he should've won more norrises early on. wasn't he nominated three or four years straight before he got one? he should be working on no. 8 by now.

the league's sense of promotion is totally inept and short-sighted. the leaking of ovechkin mvp t-shirts, and the nhl's explanation for it, were the type of bungles i would expect from a jr high young entrepeneurs club. in fact joel from risky business would do a better job of promotion.

As long as they spell it right on the Trophy, who cares.
Half the people I see on here can't spell Gretzky properly.
In fact, he even had it spelled wrong on a sweater he once wore...I think it was an All-Star game or something or when he was first traded. Might have been St. Louis...I don't rightly recall.
Hell...I bet that sweater is worth a fortune now!
Lets give the NHL some credit though...I don't think they ever mis-spelled ORR. LOL

Maybe it's time the NHL started introducing diacritics to the player''s names on their sweaters.

They spelled his name wrong on the jersey? That's nothing. When the Avs won the Cup in '96, Adam Deadmarsh was spelled "Deadmarch" on the Stanley Cup.

Misspelling a name is just plain dumb. No one proofreads or refers to media guides? I know there are much tougher names to spell than Lidstrom. And, by the way, congrats to #5 for the hardware and being the first player to hoist the Cup this season, He's a class act on a team with many other classy players, which takes a lot of sting out of losing the Cup to them. Let's Go Pens!

Saint Nic deserves all his acolades. He'll go down in history as one of the best ever. The only trophy he really cares about, though, is the Cup.

Wings fans couldn't hear the announcers with all those Championship rings in their ears. They acted like Crosby was the second coming. They were close he came in second.

Crosby wasn't the reason the Pens lost in the finals. He showed up every night and came to play.

I'm with Spiny on this. How was this possible? Utterly careless, no excuses whatsoever.

You'd think they could just change the number and use the template they had set up before. He only wins the damn thing pretty much every year. If they can spell Olvechken (which I have no chance at all to) they should be able to pull off a rather simple Swedish name.

Was it only me or the NHL awards were poorly done.
