Would Randolph help Pistons?

How about Zach Randolph as a Piston? The New York Knicks power forward fits the profile that Joe Dumars defined as prerequisites for a trade. Randolph is an impact player. He'll definitely fill a void, providing a consistent low-post offensive presence. But the most intriguing aspect of courting Randolph is that it might not cost the Pistons as much as trying to get Carmelo Anthony or Tracy McGrady. Randolph, the former Michigan State star, doesn't fit in new Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo offensive philosophy. He also has three years and an outrageous $48 million remaining on his contract, making him even more expendable.

Don't do it, Joe!

The few times I've seen the Pistons, I'm amazed at how overated Rasheed is. I would not want that guy on my team.

I think the Pistons need to make some major changes. Thier time is over. This team has been very underachieving.

June 15, 2008  09:43 AM ET

but then what would the Knicks get in return?

June 15, 2008  09:48 AM ET

Randolph had one good year with the BLAZERS. All offense and no defense. He needs to get into better shape before he (and the KNICKS) start making trades.

You can have him, but only if yo take Marbury too. In return , we want a conditional pick in the 2016 draft.

June 15, 2008  10:17 AM ET

haha 50year fan, Yeah I say take him Curry, Marbury, and James for their ballboy. I'm a diehard Knicks fan and I can't wait to get this thing turned around.

Would Randolph help Pistons?

Help them what? In there next big brawl? Destroy their chemistry? Improve their defense? Certainly the Detroit Free Press was looking for a story this morning. I almost choked on a good Father's Day breakfast.

yes come Joe take him...we'll throw in I. Thomas too!!!

June 15, 2008  12:51 PM ET

"Randolph, the former Michigan State star, doesn't fit in new Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo offensive philosophy."

So the Pistons are somehow thinking Randolph will fit their defensive minded philosophy??????

June 15, 2008  12:52 PM ET

good move, he would provide instant offense, plus he would save 3 pt in technicles raheed gets a game. lol. plus they wouldnt have to give up nothing to get him. rasheed is shot, who wants a 7 ft 3pt shooter anyway???? they have no low post scoring whatsoever

June 15, 2008  01:03 PM ET

When you say "Fits the profile" do you mean sex offender?

June 15, 2008  01:17 PM ET

Leave Randolph where he is, he is nothing but bad news, was in the news again recently for another late night bar brawl. leave him where he is, he is like a black hole

June 15, 2008  01:26 PM ET

This is not a team with untouchables, it is a team of untradeables..

June 15, 2008  02:00 PM ET

Keelee24 cracked me up. "Yeah I say take him Curry, Marbury, and James for their ballboy." Classic. But if I was Donnie Walsh I'd have to throw in a Knick ballboy out of guilt, just to even it up a bit more!

June 15, 2008  03:43 PM ET

Joe D, i am happy to be a Pistons fan, and I am also happy to have you as a general manager/president. Almost all of your decisions have improved the team, and all i have to say is that if you are going to go after a player to replace tayshaun, please try and keep randolph out of your thoughts. Offensively, he might be a more consistent scorer, but fundamentally and defensively, tayshaun definitely takes the cake. Obviously this is just my opinion and I have so much more to say about this off-season, I just hope the decisions you make are good ones sir.

June 15, 2008  05:34 PM ET

Please don't do it Joe!! There shouldn't be a player on the Knicks anyone would want!!! Don't trade your good players for garbage in return.

June 15, 2008  05:48 PM ET

Bearden Bear #88 ..Here is where you are wrong. If I> Thomas were to return to the Motor City, he would want all of them-again.

June 15, 2008  06:21 PM ET

what can RANDOLPH do that is impossible by Maxiell or McDyess. Not to mention he really does not have a real toughness or identity on the defensive end. However, he can help them lose again next year in the playoffs.

June 15, 2008  06:36 PM ET

If Walsh could unload him it WITHOUT getting an outrageous deal in return.....that would be a major coup.
but it isn't going to happen with Detroit-

Where's Darko Milicic when you need him?
