One year ago at this time, the Islanders made the stunning announcement of their decision to buy out the final four years of controversial captain Alexei Yashin's 10-year contract. Now, Yashin's return on a one-year contract next season is under discussion, but general manager Garth Snow and owner Charles Wang so far have balked at their former star's asking price.

What the f... If they do this Snow and Wang will have to be committed to the psych ward. It's one thing for another team to take a chance on him but the same one who payed him not to play, that's just crazy.

MIstakes like that really hurt teams in the new salary cap era.
Islanders will be the Atlantic Division's bee-otch next season.

June 16, 2008  09:49 AM ET

Are they really that hard up for players???

June 16, 2008  10:01 AM ET

Only a desperate team would want this cancer back.

June 16, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Are they suckers for punishment or what? It cost them an arm and a leg to get rid of him because he suc*ked! He was a cancer! He had to crwal back to Siberia to play because nobody in the NHL wanted him! And now the Isles want him back? What's wrong with these people?

There are some stupid comments made on these threads from time to time, and patently this rumour is bizarre to say the least, but that is just plain appalling, Bob.

And I'm appalled that you're appalled Oilers4Ever.

This has to be Wang talking. He is sooo involved with all player negotiations that the GM has no say. I think he wants to sign him again to a 10-15 year contract. That's what he does.

Yeah, they do. They rule the lower regions of the NHL's underbelly!

Yashin should be forced to play for free to make up for the truckloads of money he stole from the Isles earlier in his career.

June 16, 2008  03:08 PM ET

wow...what a life..get paid not to play and then on top of it get paid to play...wait a minute...I am confused...should I be playing or not playing?

June 16, 2008  03:16 PM ET

Oilers guy......Yashin WAS a cancer on the Islanders. Thats hockey talk for he sucked the life out of the team with his no-care attitude and lazy play. He has no heart and brings the dressing room down. Therefore........he is a cancer.
