Young Miami receivers impress

Gone are veterans Chris Chambers and Marty Booker, so Ted Ginn Jr. and Derek Hagan will have plenty of opportunity for playing time. Hagan, 23, needs to shed a budding reputation for dropping easy catches while making spectacular ones. Coach Tony Sparano has gone out of his way to commend Hagan for his offseason work ethic. Hoping to "play faster" than last season, in which he had 34 catches for 420 yards and two touchdowns, Ginn has impressed Karl Dorrell with his desire to create separation on the field and from those who criticize him for not living up to his lofty draft status as the ninth overall pick.

Ginn was a beast at OSU, Im curious if he has enough to become a big playmaker in the NFL game

June 16, 2008  08:10 AM ET

After the year the Dolphins had it doesn't take much to impress. Wait until they get a few games under their belt, then we'll see if their fans are impressed.

As an Ohio Sate fan I'm pulling for Ginn, but that team is pretty sad. They Should have went with Quinn last year.

June 16, 2008  08:44 AM ET

Ginn will have a much better year this year

June 16, 2008  09:19 AM ET

I sure hope Ginn plays well ... but first round wide receivers in recent years havent done much.

June 16, 2008  09:36 AM ET

I still don't get the Quinn backers. He has done NOTHING in the NFL yet. Does everyone forget the floaters he threw at ND? EWOLW - You say you're an OSU fan. Did you forget the Fiesta Bowl, and every other big game Quinn played in college? This team was dreadfully slow 2 years ago, and it didn't matter who they drafted last year because they were still going to be terrible. Ginn creates field position on special teams, and if I was short on talent, I'd like to be given the sortest field possible.

I like to see Tony Sparano singleing out the guys that are getting it done. I think the other members of the team will see that and be able to feed off of the positive reenforcement.

June 16, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Marino, you obviously know the Dolphins situation better than I do, or at least I'd think so with a name like that. And yes Ginn is a playmaker, but I think Quinn was a worthy choice as well. As for the Fiesta Bowl, the same game that he threw 45 passes without any INTS, 14 of them being consecutive completions. Sure he didn't win the big game but realistically the two teams were not on the same level. Notre Dame didn't have the number of weapons that OS had. Quinn hasn't even got a shot yet in the league, once he does I believe he'll show that he could have been worth a higher pick. Not trying to diss Ginn, he's a freak, loved him at OS just would have went with the QB at that point in time if I was Miami.

Ginn is undersized and I still say he was a stretch at number 9. Why not trade down and take him at 15 or 16? He could have been had anywhere before the Titans selected at 19.

June 16, 2008  10:25 AM ET

I'm pulling for Ginn, but drafting him at #9 shows how messed up this franchise is. You need a decent QB to win games and the Dolphins had a chance last year and now look at them....they still don't have a QB. I suppose they can go after Tiebow in the '09 Draft since Miami should be one of the worst teams again....if not the worse.

Ginn, you have a LOT to live up to not be a bust. We shall see!

They could still use a veteran there, but I am rooting for Ginn.

Besides J.Taylor are there any Dolphins with big names?

They Should have went with Quinn last year.

Why? Weren't the Dolphins bad enough? Brady Quinn sucks.

wow solid argument, I have no reply to that.

June 16, 2008  01:47 PM ET

Oh wait I do, Chris Weinke and Charlie Ward, the 2 QB's on Florida State's ALL TIME team. ALL-TIME!! I'll bet every nickel I have that Quinn will be better than either of these guys. And did you know that Peter Warrick is going to be playing in the up and coming All American Football League, 2009 watch out for it, Team Florida. Spectacular. This sh.. writes itself.

All you guys who wanted quinn, take this to heart. Compare John Beck's numbers (who they got in the 2nd round) against common opponents of Brady Quinn in the same year. John Beck's powerhouse BYU outplayed ND and brady quinn in those games. And ND had far more weapons than BYU did.

It would be a great steal if Beck turns out, I just don't think he will.
