It will be tough for anyone to get out of the shadow of Jonathan Ogden. But if anyone can, it would be 6-foot-9, 350-pound Jared Gaither. At his farewell news conference Thursday, Ogden offered some advice to Gaither, who is expected to replace him at left tackle. "I will tell him, 'Don't try to be me; be Jared,' " Ogden said. "And hopefully Jared will be as good, if not better, one day. And doing the best you can will generally be enough. You don't need that extra pressure." This could be the biggest adjustment for the Ravens this season. In 11 seasons as the Ravens' left tackle, Ogden went to 11 Pro Bowls and started 160 games. Gaither, 22, a second-year player out of Maryland, has two career starts.

Big loss.....

The Ravens look old. They don't have a QB. It will be a long year...

I agree. They have a lot of rebuilding to do.

Stand up guy and player. He will be hard to replace as there is a learning curve to playing LT.

June 16, 2008  10:26 AM ET

murrays law & cowboy dave, with all due respect, I don't believe the Ravens look old at all.

They're o-lineman are all 25 yrs. old or under.

All their QB's are still young.

All their RB's are still young.

The only old player on offense is Derek Mason.

On defense the average starter is 27 yrs. old, with Ray Lewis, Trevor Pryce, Rolle, & McAlister getting up in age but still playing well. Everyone else is fairly young still on that side of the ball besides these guys.

Stover is old but he's a kicker.

So I'm confused as to how they look so old to you guys ?

June 16, 2008  10:48 AM ET

So basically Ed is saying that 4 - 5 guys will have to carry a team of youngsters. Can you say 2009 high draft pick!!!

June 16, 2008  11:05 AM ET

Riddy, the Ravens have alot of young talent on the o-line, d-line, rb's, secondary, etc.

and i'm thrilled that no one seems to know about them; they're going to sneak up on alot of people...

June 16, 2008  11:06 AM ET

p.s. the answer to this articles title is that no one can replace ogden, only play his same position...and for christs sake find another photo of him to use fannation !!!

June 16, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Riddy, how can you be a bears AND packers fan at the same time ?

June 16, 2008  11:21 AM ET

I remember him as a Bruin, man am I getting old.

June 16, 2008  12:12 PM ET

They cant replace him, just try to move on

June 16, 2008  12:37 PM ET

Congrats Ogden. First Ballet HOF for sure and one of the all-time great Bruins as well! I wonder if we can get him to come help us recruit an O-line.

June 16, 2008  01:03 PM ET

This will actually not change anything from last year. He was injured most of the past two seasons. Gaither is actually an upgrade from the Ogden as of late. As for the rest of the team. The defense will not be good at all this year, Ray Lewis will be injured just like last year and he is their defense. Again, they never should have fired me.

June 16, 2008  01:07 PM ET

That is actually the best picture they could find of him, at least his hair is more combed in this one.

June 16, 2008  02:49 PM ET

Billick, you obviously have shown you're clueless. How can you say the defense won't be any good this year ? They've been a top defense for about 8 or 9 years now in a row ! and they did nothing but improve this offseason !

Ray will be injured alot like last year ?

He only missed 2 weeks last year, and those were week 16 & 17 ! How is that being injured alot ?

Lewis is "their defense" ? Did you forget Reed, Ngata, McAlister, Gregg, Pryce, Suggs, Scott, etc. etc. ? i guess so.

wow.

June 16, 2008  02:57 PM ET

Ed Reed, a lot is two words. I guess you know so much more than everyone else on this page because you are obsessed with the Ravens. That gives you a great perspective on just how insignificant "your" team is. Ray Lewis was injured last year and will be again this year because he is a 33 year old linebacker with bad shoulders. Why do you feel you have to monitor any comment on the Ravens and then validate it somehow?

Also Ed, once your rage level comes down if you read my message I said Lewis was injured last year. You added the a lot.
