Ex-Bear: No one tried to hurt Benson

Posted: Monday June 16, 2008 06:15AM ET

Ruben Brown showed again Sunday why if he doesn't find an NFL team that wants his services this fall, he should have no problem finding a media outlet. In an interview on WMVP-AM, the outspoken Brown chastised a report by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer that as many as 10 Bears players once tried to hurt Cedric Benson in practice. "You're saying Mike Brown, Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, outstanding stand-up people in the community and on the team, leaders of our team, wanted to go and hurt another teammate? Come on, that's far-fetched," the former Bears star said. "I was on the team. I saw when Cedric got hurt. Cedric got hurt on his own accord. Why would Brian Urlacher care to intentionally hurt our starting running back that's going to keep us from making it to the playoffs?"

No one needs to hurt Cedric Benson, he does that all by himself.

Maybe Jay Glazer was on Lake Travis too?

I'm a huge UT fan, but what the hell is going on with our dread-headed RBs when they get to the pros? First Ricky Williams, then Cedric Benson. Hopefully Jamaal Charles can break the trend, but he was a huge fan of Ricky.

Something tells me they'd like another crack at him now!

The same could be said about almost any media org.

FOX is as creditable as E! channel, belongs in the back pages,
Right! (Yawning) lets get the season started:p

Benson is another clueless athlete that clearly lacks common sense.

Report Offensive Comment

I don't think they cared for Benson but no way did they intentionally try to hurt Benson.

Report Offensive Comment

Well at least the Bears are in the news... after last year anything to spark something would be welcomed..

Ruben Brown: "I was on the team. I saw when Cedric got hurt. Cedric got hurt on his own accord."

Translation: "We didn't go out and deliberately hurt Cedric. We couldn't stand the punk so, we just missed a block here and there so he could have the opportunity to get hurt all on his own, if he wanted to"

Lady Horton said what I had planned to- you don't need a team to hurt him for he"ll hurt himself all by himself.

Benson was never going to succeed with the Bears. Many think taking him at the 4 pick was a waste and the time and it appears it was. Moreover, with his hold out and playing with Thomas Jones (whom everyone loved) were all the nails needed in that coffin. Therefore, why wouldn't Mike Brown, Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and others try to help put that "coffin" into the ground?

Hindsight is always 20-20. Too much over too little (= Benson). It's over. Who cares? Let's move on to speculation about the next problem with the Patriots: why aren't they the AFL favorites to repeat? (This one goes out to you, KP.)
