Can Manning steady Giants?

The Man is staying characteristically calm, shaking off minicamp controversies as he did Patriots tacklers last February on third-and-Tyree, brushing off praise as he did all doubters, accepting his new standing as the sleepy-eyed face of the Giants with a familiar aw-shucks shrug. Tiki Barber is long gone, Michael Strahan recently retired and Jeremy Shockey may be angling to be traded. Eli's the man now, but the same Manning, Super Bowl ring notwithstanding. "He's not changing," Amani Toomer said Friday at the end of the last assembly before the Giants reconvene next month for countless more repetitions, of which there apparently can never be enough. "He's not going all Broadway on us."

Manning needs to keep on keeping up being who he be not who he is. The media has tried to change him and forced him to be a rah-rah type of guy but he is not.
He is a calm, cool, methodical type of player, so why would he change!?
He is out QB and we wouldn't trade him for no body.
Don't no body needs to judege him, we won wif him and will stick wif him!
Can you say repeat? Yes you can take you!

June 16, 2008  08:41 AM ET

out = our

We wont change for you, not for me, not for no body....so let it go bros!

June 16, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Why does he have to set the team straight? Its not his personality to do so and it should be the coach and GM anyways. He carried that team in the playoffs so let it be.

June 16, 2008  08:49 AM ET

Like him or not, you have to respect his work ethic and approach to his job..The best draft day trade the Giants ever made. My opinion. Rivers is good, but he can be ahead case..
The worst draft trade they ever made? Thats easy, Number one for Craig Morton. That number one was Randy White...

so say the fans who wanted Eli traded and Coughlin fired in week 3 last season.. spare me.. this is so laughable.

June 16, 2008  09:01 AM ET

very true KP. Any takes on how long it will be before the fans start screaming for someone's head if the Giants go 0-2 like they did last year......

All this chemistry crap is just that, crap. All that matters is what happens on the field. All Eli has to do is throw the ball to the right guys.

June 16, 2008  09:04 AM ET

I wouldnt be suprised if we find 3 or 4 more jewels in this years draftees either S Kenny Phillips CB Terrell Thomas WR Mario Manningham QB Andre' Woodson LB Bryan Kehl DE Robert Henderson......
Reese is doing such a heck of a job! WE ARE YOUNG, LOADED AND WILL BE PAIN TO DEAL WITH FOR YEARS TO COME!

buford | 06/16/08,

and the right guys need to make the right plays..
Theres no doubt that certain combinations make for great plays but thats more because of the collective talent of those combinations than it is about "chemistry"

June 16, 2008  09:11 AM ET

This will be the year that defines he leadership. He came through last year and now can really focus on his future respect. There have been many one year miracle QB's but they always struggle the next year.. in fact most not all teams struggle the year after the big win.. he can shut up the critics and also set the real tone for his future.. he is a solid QB and needs to continue to throw and stay in his element and be consistent and he will have a solid season.

Youre already a pain ! ..

oh wait, you meant the TEAM?

drj0514 | 06/16/08,

How can you call someone a "solid quarterback" with a half a season of good games behind him?
Lets see what he does in 08 before we start talking about his "greatness" is all Im saying.

June 16, 2008  09:14 AM ET

The problems facing the Giants right now are not problems he can fix.

Plax wants more money, Eli isn't involved in the teams front office decisions.

Shockey wants a bigger role or to be traded, and is pissed off. Eli is not going for force throws to please him, and while he may have the Super Bowl MVP prestige to throw around the huddle, Shockey is far too stubborn a person to let that mean anything to him.

June 16, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Third and Tyree? Clever.

June 16, 2008  09:46 AM ET

All Eli has to do is manage the game and keep his tirnovers down, just like Big Ben. Not great at any one thing but can direct the team with the right pieces around him, and with the defense stiil great minus MS they will be ok.

June 16, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Eli is leader, our messiah, our captain, our guidinlight.
When all is said and done he will be better than, Simms, Montana, Bradshaw, I forsee 2 more championships under his belt...If you do't like it tough, it is a fact.

June 16, 2008  09:58 AM ET

And we have a young core of QB learning the system... Woodson is a stud! Carr will be a solid backup! I dont see anyone in the NFC getting in our way. Boys are ok but crack under pressure and Vikings are a turf team, have no qb..., that's a bout it....No other competition. Our only competition and just like everyone has pointed out is: ourselves. Will be aaiight~

buford, that is grammatically incorrect, should be "you is making me sick"...
