The Celtics finally made it home from Los Angeles last night, although the team arrived without guard Ray Allen. The Celtics' flight out of LA International Airport was delayed yesterday when their plane experienced mechanical problems. The team eventually switched planes and took off at 2:30 Pacific Time (5:30 EDT), arriving at Logan Airport at 10:30. Allen, who rushed from Staples Center after Sunday night's loss to the Lakers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals because of "health issues" involving one of his sons, remained in Los Angeles while the child continued to undergo tests at a hospital. Allen has two sons and a daughter. Some of the players' family members made the journey to Los Angeles for Games 3, 4 and 5 of the Finals. Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said Allen planned to fly out late last night or first thing this morning and expected to play in Game 6 tonight at the Garden.

I hope his kid's OK.

Family comes first...Let's pray his kid is OK and healthy...

Ray Allen is one of if not the only player I respect highly on the Celtics.

Aside from that, I wish his child well. Win or lose, family comes first.

Massive blow for the Celtics if he doesn't play. 'He got game' I hope his kid is OK.

Honestly, he's played in 5 Finals games. He only has two sons. If I were to choose, I would take my son. It's way more important than some basketball game.

It's tuff to balance the kids and the job when you're working overtime. Although you gotta pay the bills, the priority is the family. It looks like he left work as soon as he could to get to his kids. Any working father knows about that.

June 17, 2008  10:16 AM ET

well i hope the kids ok and i hope that he plays when the lakers beat them on game 6, so there will be no excuses

June 17, 2008  10:22 AM ET

He is the real deal, got his priorities right.

I have been a big fan of Allen since he was with the Bucks. I am pulling for him to win a ring, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

June 17, 2008  10:59 AM ET

Hope Ray's kid gets well.

The game of life sometimes shows us how insignificant sports really are. Having said that, after tonight, Allen should be able to devote is undivided attention to his family. By this time tomorrow, Kobe should be leading the Fakers to his favorite fishing hole.

i hate ray allen.. he always plays the lakers tough..

June 17, 2008  11:53 AM ET

That is just one more reason to love him, Turoks!!!!!

June 17, 2008  12:45 PM ET

This is one of those fine lines between homelife and worklife. Much as I'd like him to be around to help the Celts smack the uppity Lakers around, he really should be with his kid.

I sent Bynum out to stab Allen and Pierce in the Achilles....at least then he would be somewhat productive. That might hold them to 12 pts per game. GO LAKERS GO!!!!

I guess your Lakers can't take the beating from the Celtics so you are hoping the Celtics will call in sick. I guess you need all the help you can get. Don't worry because I think the refs are gonna help you out tonight. Stern wants a game 7 so you don't need to send anybody hurt the Celtics so they can't play.
