Blues-Senators trade in works?

The Senators can officially get rid of Ray Emery. The buyout period started yesterday and runs until June 30. It's expected the Senators will soon serve notice to the troubled goalie that his days with the club are finished. Before GM Bryan Murray sends Emery packing with a $2.25-million buyout, Murray will exhaust all trade options. Sources say there are a couple of teams interested in Emery, including the Blues. A source said a deal could be worked out if Murray is willing to add a prospect or a pick in this weekend's draft at Scotiabank Place.

Good luck. Every team knows your trying desperately to get rid of this guy, or your going to buy him out. So what is stopping them from asking for a king's ransom in return?

It doesn't surprise me at all that the Blues are asking for extra prospects, I'm sure other teams are doing the same.

The Blues have offered the Sens one of those Motivational Poster's in exchange for Emery.
The poster is of Wayne Gretzky in a BLUES uniform. The caption reads...
"COMMITMENT"
Murray thinks this is a great deal as he has failed to comprehend the paradoxical message.

Believe me Murray .... all trade options are already exhausted.
How he could possibly think there's much of a deal to be had is beyond comprehension. Then again there are some other idiots out there.

BGM...you really shouldn't wake up this early. You are clearly suffering from sleep deprivation this morning. This article is about Emery....so I have to point out the last word in your comment is out of context.
Sorry...have a coffee on me dude.

June 17, 2008  09:52 AM ET

OK...how's this? this guy is a waste of semen

June 17, 2008  09:56 AM ET

This guy has SOME talent. Last seasons line:
58GP 33W 2.47 G.A.A 5 shut-outs .918% save percentage.
This seasons he had a .890 save percentage in 31 games. He just doesnt have the pre-requisite work ethic!!

June 17, 2008  10:09 AM ET

Emery has talent, you don't lead a team to the Cup finals in you don't. His problem is in his head. But the Sens help make him into what he's become. Two seasons ago when he was fighting Andrew Peters and getting pulled over by the cops it was just "Ray being Ray", because the Sens were winning. Then the Sens decide to quit trying and its Ray's fault? He's still the same goalie that got'em to the Finals, he just has a shittier team in front of him.

That said tho, I can't see him ever being the #1 goalie on a Cup-contending team. He needs to go to STL or LA where they aren't expected to win and there's no media.

June 17, 2008  10:27 AM ET

A mere formality. He was gone since he started messing with the Sens. Now it will be made official!

Does anybody in the NHL want this troubled soul? They should call the Islanders. If they're trying to get Yashin back, they'll take anybody!

June 17, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Emery is a good goalie at best. I'm not saying this cannot change but when you lack work ethic and the desire to do what is best for the team you may be worth the 2.5 million not to play.

I'm surprised the Sens haven't checked on the availability of Steve Valiquette. Gerber certainly isn't going to carry this team.

Spezza for Luongo

June 17, 2008  11:03 AM ET

Spezza for Luongo, Sho Nuff?

No way! I wouldn't take four Spezzas for Roberto Luongo! He's one of a kind!

June 17, 2008  11:06 AM ET

spezza for a bag of pucks (used)...

June 17, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Maybe they can buy him out this year and try to entice him back next year. If nothing else it'll cause disbelief and amusement for the Fannation.

June 17, 2008  11:29 AM ET

I don't really want to see this guy on the Blues, but Toivenen was so bad last year, I guess JD figures he has to get another goalie that can play. I'd rather they try to develop a couple of the kids they have, and get a less-dvisive backup for the short term

Even if Spezza plays the way he's supposed to (and I hope he does, I think the NYR may go after him!) Luongo is a terrific goalie. We know this because Milbury traded him.
