Texans to sign pass rusher

After two weeks of negotiations, the Texans are signing outside linebacker Rosevelt Colvin today. General manager Rick Smith and agent Kennard McGuire agreed on a deal that will bring Colvin to Houston to become an outside pass rusher opposite Mario Williams. The Texans are hoping that Colvin, 6-3, 250, can provide another pass rush off the edge that was missing since last season. With the Texans, he will likely be a situational pass rusher on the right side.

Last I saw he was signed. A good pickup for the Texans, but not good for Colvin if he plans on winning anything any time soon.

If Colvin, Andre Johnson, and Schaub stay healthy they have a pretty good shot at a wildcard. But they should find a RB first, unless that Taylor guy is good.

I hope Dunta Robinson makes it back from his injury. That injury was horrendous, and possibly career ending. That kid was having a Pro-Bowl year before he was injured.

C-Smith - Dont count the Texans out just yet.

Great move by the Texans! As long as Rosie can stay healthy, that is a great front line. However, regarding Dunta Robinson, do not count on him returning to his previous form, if at all this year.

I would not be suprised to see Steve Slaton do something in that offense. The Offensive line is getting better and better.

June 17, 2008  09:37 AM ET

They will go 7-9 and miss the playoffs. But they are climbing higher and higher.

June 17, 2008  09:47 AM ET

7-9----Common bud they will not be worse than last year (8-8)...

June 17, 2008  09:54 AM ET

AFC Playoffs:

East - Pats
South - Colts
North - Browns/Steelers (I can't call that one)
West - Chargers

Wild Card #1: Jaguars
Wild Card #2: Whoever loses out on the Browns/Steelers

I really don't see how the Texans have a chance at the playoffs with so many other teams that are clearly better. Then again the improbable team that no one gave a chance to win against the unbeaten walked out with the Lombardi so you never know.

June 17, 2008  10:18 AM ET

The Texans won't surprise anyone this year. They play in the toughest division and will beat up on the other two teams competing for the wild card in that division. The Titans nor the Texans will make the playoffs this year.
Pats, Chargers, Colts, Steelers will win the divisions
Browns and Jags the wild card spots.

June 17, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Still this is a pretty good signing for a young team finally headed in the rght direction.

June 17, 2008  10:41 AM ET

Good luck Rosie. We're definitely gonna miss you in NE.

June 17, 2008  11:09 AM ET

I don't give them a chance to make the playoffs, but they will improve. If they can't win their in-conference games, they have no chance of making the playoffs.

June 17, 2008  11:24 AM ET

They will split with the Titans but lose both to the Colts and Jags.

June 17, 2008  11:27 AM ET

Blue, no way. Texans will take both Titans games, split with Colts and Jags, but still only finish 9-7 and out of the playoffs.

June 17, 2008  12:49 PM ET

10-6

June 17, 2008  01:17 PM ET

They have an outstanding record against the Jaguars the Colts and Titans are the ones they can't seem to beat. If everyone stays healthy and get some pressure on the quarterback than the secondary will automatically improve due to not having to cover the receivers for so long. They can't have Ahman Green carry the bulk it is going to have to be split up among all the backs for them to have a chance....I say either 9-7 or 10-6...possibly making the playoffs by the skin of their teeth.

"[pass rush] that was missing since last season. "

They said that like it was ever there at all.

Living in Houston and having a best friend with Texans' season tickets, I can honestly say that the fans ALWAYS over-estimate the teams abilities.

I'll never forget being in the porta-potty line and arguing with two guys about how the team should draft Reggie Bush and trade Domanick Davis for a 1st and a 3rd round pick. At the time, Bush was the right call but I told them they were crazy if they thought anyone other than a really desperate team was going to offer anything more than a 3rd for Davis with his history of knee problems. And they thought I was the crazy one.
