Seahawk avoids conviction

Seahawks defensive tackle Rocky Bernard's domestic-violence case will be dismissed if he complies with a series of conditions for two years. The city attorney and Bernard agreed to a stipulated order of continuance that says he cannot have any criminal law violations for two years and must comply with the terms of a no-contact order with the victim. He must complete a domestic-violence treatment program, undergo a drug-and-alcohol evaluation, comply with any treatment recommendations, and cannot possess weapons. He also must pay $400 in court costs. The agreement is not a conviction and won't become one provided Bernard complies with all the conditions for two years. Bernard could have faced up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted of the misdemeanor domestic-violence assault charge.

Good. They got this before anyone died. Is anyone checking his domestic partner for problems -- like being a tin version of Hillary Clinton or anything?

June 17, 2008  08:31 AM ET

2 years?? He's never gonna make it.

June 17, 2008  08:40 AM ET

How is someone punished by the legal system but is not convicted?

June 17, 2008  10:20 AM ET

And if it had been an ordinary Joe like you or me we would be facing the $1000 fine and some time in jail.

June 17, 2008  10:27 AM ET

How's the person he beat up doing?

June 17, 2008  11:36 AM ET

In misd. DV cases the other party is not injured. If there are injuries it is a felony. Very black and white. The reason he gets punishment but no conviction most likely lies with the fact that there were conflicting statements an no independent witnesses. That is how hard law will crash down on DV cases. If this was almost any other crime it would have been dropped. DV cases are looked at under the microscope. Also the entire celeb thing doesn't work either. A lot of misd DV cases go this route. I have read a lot about this case and I have seen much much worse dropped. I have been a cop in Cali for quite awhile now and have worked thousands of these. The DV laws in Cali and Washington are the same.

And another star misses jail time. Well, at least that is one less on the Police Blotter. The Cedric Benson ordeal was big enough for this past off-season.

A rocky road for Rocky Bernard. It's a shame.

NORCALSURFER777 ,

c'mon ... just say it ...

The REAL reason he got a "punishment but no conviction" was because THE CITY ATTORNEY WAS A STEELERS FAN right?

"It was a conspiracy by the justice system and the Steelers against the Seahawks dammit ..... WAAAAAAA!"

And what was it you were saying about legal problems, domestic-violence and the Steelers players again?

Don't you just HATE it when your prior statements come back and bite you in the **** ... AGAIN?

You're so easy a target it's laughable.

You might want to keep your mouth shut from now on when it comes to topics on Steelers threads.

I'm just sayin' .....

By the way, I ripped your argument to shreds on the last thread you posted to me on.

Make sure you run like the wind from that one too!

June 17, 2008  07:57 PM ET

BlackGold you are acting like a tool. Seek help for your inferiority complex about Superbowl XL.

June 17, 2008  09:38 PM ET

BlackGold might need to find a hobby....or a lady friend.

June 17, 2008  09:43 PM ET

Hawks12theMan,

Coming from you, and the team you follow, you'd know all about that wouldn't you?

Win a Super Bowl and then talk ... that should keep you quiet for a while.

June 17, 2008  09:52 PM ET

Bandit77,

"BlackGold might need to find a hobby....or a lady friend."

I already have one.

Now YOU I'm not so sure of... after all your icon is a picture of a GUY - shirtless no less!

Being that you probably wear your zipper in the BACK, people probably wouldn't be finding many of them around you now would they?

Now I'd learn to stay out of disputes that don't concern you. At least until your mustache grows in enough to cover your stretch marks.

Thanks in advance!

Black and Gold, time to get back into the basement buddy. If you consider what you wrote "tearing me to threads" you really are pathetic.

June 19, 2008  05:38 PM ET

Norcalsurfer,

How long have you been this remedial? Are you smarter than a fifth-grader?

It's called tearing you to "shreds" - not threads.

And "pathetic" would be you STILL crying over your team's loss in the only SB appearance you'll ever see in your lifetime - and not being able to respond to a post of mine without getting another beat down.

The sooner you stop shooting your mouth off on Steelers threads, the sooner this all goes away.

I'll do you a favor for now and assume you've learned your lesson.

June 19, 2008  06:41 PM ET

Sad just sad. Dude you take way to much pride in what you think are witty posts. I am happy to say there is very little I could ever learn from a squid like yourself. A beat down involves a physical act, something you would need to come out of your basement in order to attempt. Be careful there are some nasty fungi that grow in basements I hope you keep yours clean.

June 19, 2008  08:26 PM ET

Norcalsurfer,

What's next? "I'm rubber you're glue"?

Seriously ... is that the BEST you can do? "Basement" smack?

That's as weak as .. well ...

your football team!

Wow are those suposed to be good put downs or comments? Goodness dude or whatever you are.........Do you make little fannation trophies and present them to yourself in front of the mirror. Very sad. Really nothing you have written to or about me is worth diddley. I am sure you will keep trying. You aren't a quitter I will give you that. By the way Puttsburgh's season will be over by October. 6-10 if you catch a few breaks.
