The $4.5 million that Pavol Demitra was paid last season by the Wild matches the salary increases next season due to the Wild's Nick Schultz, Marian Gaborik and Brent Burns. Demitra's free-agent departure is imminent.

Cliff?... this guy could help..

Forget it Fonzie...Pavel is good but he is getting a little too long in the tooth and is injury prone. Toronto has enough d-men in that catagory especially at that asking price.
Looks like a good candidate for the Euro Wings though...right up their ally.

4.5 is way too much for a 15 goal scorer. His max should be 2 million per year.

June 17, 2008  09:35 AM ET

He's a defenceman BGM. Yes 4.5 it too much for him IMO...but not because of his offensive output...his career plus/minus is very good.
But it's early in the morning...so I will repeat...
He's a defenceman BGM.

Can't blame anyone for wanting to leave Minnesota. Just look at the North Stars.

Okay, I was trying to be nice about this yesterday. Again, I realise that you're trying very hard to be witty and funny. It isn't working. Not even close. Not only are your comments, well, stupid, but a lot of them show a lack of knowledge about hockey, which if you haven't noticed in your desperate attempts to be glib, is what this section is all about.
I again say you would be better served in the football threads, where not nearly so much of a grasp of the sport is needed.

I always get a kick out of " the stars" Being changed from the "North Stars" Pathetic. One of the coolest sweaters of all time.

No kidding! Who is that guy anyway?
He posts something (or MANY things in a row) at like 6am, and then vanishes like a dork in the night

Demitra is a defenceman? Maybe you should go back to bed there Baun-ded. Appparently you're brain needs some extra sleep.

June 17, 2008  09:50 AM ET

demitra is NOT a defenceman...he is a finesse creative injury prone forward.

June 17, 2008  09:51 AM ET

BGM...as far as the offence...Pavel has put up .85 PPG over the last two seasons while playing for the Wild!
Secondly, his 2 seasons prior to that were even better. "Plus", let not "take away" anything from his Plus/Minus stats.
2 million?
Get a coffee bro.
Just as a side bar....I have decided to alter Gocanada's name to...
"Gonecanada" based on his absense of late.

I think this guy hates everybody, especially the Wild. I've yet to read a positive comment from him about anyone. Maybe we just shouldn't talk about him anymore .....?

Hahahahaha...I think you're right...LOL...Rothf-lmfao...I'm surely awake now...and have to go to work...hahahahahaha....

June 17, 2008  10:01 AM ET

I'm still laughing...
This is all Bentley's fault...he got me thinking of defencemen this morning and I've been trolling all the draft picks...Luke Schenn possibly in the Blue & White corrupted my mind...It's all Bentley's fault and I'm also going to be ticked with him for bringing it up as Luke is going to probably go one pick before the Leafs get a crack at him...and now I just heard its going to rain today.
And I'm late for work...Then Patriots showed up...
And I thought today was going to be such a good day...Dare I cross a busy street?

June 17, 2008  10:10 AM ET

Hhahahahahah.....and you're telling ME to go back to bed. Maybe you should catch a cab to cross that street there baun-ded. Just in case.

Pavol Demitra's got some talent! He can play! A lot of teams will be after him! He'll be deciding where he wants to play next. Me thinks it will be where the cash is the greenest!

June 17, 2008  11:59 AM ET

i agree Dcruiser.if the isles are really sounding out yashin they'd be much better off making an offer for demitra .he could do well on a lot of teams

June 17, 2008  12:16 PM ET

Ryan Malone will soon be the Wilds (unless the Blue Jackets get him) next overpaid star at 5 million. I can't believe teams are willing to give this guy that much money. I know he is tough, but his numbers come from the talent around him and not by him as much. He is worth no more than 3.5 million dollars.

June 17, 2008  12:41 PM ET

if someone could guarantee me that demitra would be healthy all year...I would sign him (Lou hired me as assistant GM)
