Agent: Malone won't agree to trade

Amid speculation that the Penguins were about to send Ryan Malone to a Western Conference team for a player and/or draft pick, Malone's agent signaled last night that his client was not interested in such a deal and that Malone would rather wait to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. The Columbus Dispatch reported yesterday that the Penguins were going to trade Malone's right to Columbus, Vancouver or Minnesota. But Malone's agent, Mike Liut, suggested that a team trading for his client might end up empty-handed if Malone chooses not to sign.

Thsi will be a terrible loss, fro the Pens, sure he doesn't put up huge numbers, but he plays a great game all around and has the heart to play in areas that some of their other players don't have.

As for the dating site, that's pretty weird, maybe he's outgrown puck bunnies

Big loss for the Pens.

Can't blame him for not wanting to be traded to the Minnesota Tame.

Dating site? He's married and just had a baby boy a couple of months ago.

His wanting to test free agency will leave the Pens empty-handed as far as draft picks go. Word last night on "Savran on Sports" had a 2nd or 3rd round pick (I thought that kind of low) coming from Columbus but only contingent on Malone agreeing to sign with them.

Minnesota is the state in which he currently lives. The trading deadline looms. This wrench in the machine may cause the Pens to do a trade they really didn't want to.......

June 18, 2008  07:18 AM ET

Sorry, forgot to add this...

The Trib states Columbus was going to offer a 4 to 5 year deal at $4.5 mil/year while the Pens did not want to go much beyond $3 mil/year.

June 18, 2008  07:19 AM ET

Wow, Malone did that Western Conference team a favor thru his agent. That showed some class.

Therrien, ignore that cuttie person as it has been doing that on virtually every article all morning.

Morning Therrien. That cuttie guy puts that dating website thing on all his posts, ignore him!

A 2nd round pick I can see if it was with at least another player, even if it was a minor league guy, a third rounder is just an insult to the Pens and Malone. Why all these guys can't just realize that they have lightning in a bottle and bite the bullet on a bit of their salaries is beyond me. This goes for everyone on the team. I know Crosby took less than market value on his extension, and others say they're willing to take less, but they're obviously not or these things would be worked out already.

June 18, 2008  07:33 AM ET

The only chance any of these Penguins have of getting a ring elsewhere is going to Detroit and that aint happening so stay and take less in the name of team and title.

June 18, 2008  07:49 AM ET

I think I'll ignore cuttie........

June 18, 2008  07:50 AM ET

evolv...it appears a lot of things will hinge on if Hossa is signed.....

June 18, 2008  07:51 AM ET

Oilers....good morning to you, sir. And to Cassidy.

Instead of ignoring it report it as spam so the mods can delete it and block him.

June 18, 2008  08:24 AM ET

Wait, wait don't delete it . Oh Nooooooooooo..........well you can still see me at your local 7-11 behind the Twinkie counter. I'll be the one in shades.

TR, What was that about me in the Igloo? I never knew about that. Had to be one of those cheap impersonators.......

Finally, AND FOR THE LAST TIME: Crosby, Malkin and Fleury. Crosby, Malkin and Fleury. The rest is superfluous at this point.

June 18, 2008  08:38 AM ET

Too bad. Great for the Penguins!!

The guys is a work horse. Great player. His talent will be wasted in Columbus if he goes there. Minnesota is a better match.

I think it may take a bit more. Perhaps if he walked into a piece of farming machinery? Or at least stuck to American Football...

First things first...whap-whap-whap...there.
Malone could quite likely be the best 2nd line forward available this year as a free agent and great price...are you listening there Cliff?
