Cubbies preparing to deal?

The Cubs recalled Matt Murton from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday and sent Eric Patterson back down, though they may just be showcasing Murton for a possible deal. General manager Jim Hendry sent special assistant Ken Kravec to scout Boston this week in Cincinnati and Philadelphia. The Cubs still are interested in Red Sox center fielder Coco Crisp, and now may be willing to include Rich Hill in a multiplayer package. Murton was acquired from Boston in the Nomar Garciaparra deal in '04.

If I was a Cubs fan and somebody called my team the Cubbies I would want to open a can of whooparse then go puke. Cubbies? Reminds me of TeleTubbies. LMAO

Much agreed Cass- sounds like a pee wee baseball team...

June 18, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Coco Crisp again? no thank you.......................keep your own mistakes......

June 18, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Rich Hill ? why include him in this laughable trade.......... another wonderful but yet misleading story brought to you bu FICTIONNATION.com............Laughing at all the trash being published here these days.

June 18, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Wrigley.....I actually agree with you! I wouldn't give up Hill to get Crisp if I were the Cubs.

June 18, 2008  09:40 AM ET

Hill and murton for Crisp.. taht would be awesome for the Red Sox

A FACT |

NO. 1: Neither of you wear envy well. Such bitterness. (I am surprised at you,Cass.) Wrigley (along with Fenway) = best baseball parks in country. "Cubbies" = term of endearment to fans. Having grown up in CA, I know that people out there can't understand the relationship. GO CUBBIES!

NO. 2; Crisp for Hill and Murton? Stop the madness - and the tequila, Lou! This love affair with Crisp has been going on too long. He's seen his best days.

June 18, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Boston needs the experienced 4th outfielder for insurance. This is a bad trade on both sides if you look at immediate needs.

June 18, 2008  10:42 AM ET

This thread is nothing but a bad joke. The trade would never happen. Everyone knows Coco will be release first. Nobody will trade for him. the trade would have been done by now.

June 18, 2008  10:49 AM ET

Oooh..the Cubs are dangling two 30 year old career minor leaguers...one of whom has recently contracted Steve Blass disease..why would the Red Sox do this trade?

June 18, 2008  10:59 AM ET

This would be a bad trade... for the Red Sox. Their outfield rotation is working well, and Crisp is one of the best defensive centerfielders in baseball. Why would Boston want Murton, and the Sox sure as hell don't want Hill right now.

June 18, 2008  11:03 AM ET

Crisp is no more productive than the combo or Johnson/Edmonds at this point and is not worth Murton and Hill in anyway. Jim Hendry isn't retarded.

June 18, 2008  11:14 AM ET

Lou and Hendry have publicly said they are going to see how things work out w/ what he has available in center and there is no interest in Crisp any longer. Johnson has a great glove and Edmonds is coming around. If the Cubs are showcasing Murton and including Hill in a trade word around Chicago is that it would be for Sabathia

June 18, 2008  11:25 AM ET

Hill and Murton for Sabathia? Dream on, CubNation, dream on.

You better toss in Sean Marshall, Carlos Marmol, and a couple of other pieces to even make this plausible.

June 18, 2008  11:29 AM ET

^ don't ever get rid of Marmol he is a monster. Throw in Gallagher and Pie.

June 18, 2008  11:29 AM ET

No doubt.....there's no way Cleveland would do that deal for Hill and Murton.

June 18, 2008  11:32 AM ET

All cubs fan are dreamers... thats the only way you can stay a cub fan.
Oh i know there would have to be another pitching prospect thrown in but the Cubs have more young prospects than most team in the league. Marmol isnt going anywhere, thats insance..... except in the closer role in a couple of years. He is the best bullpen pitcher in the league right now. Sabathia for Marmol alone wouldnt be a fair trade. Sean Marshall, Samardzija, even Pie would have to go w/ the trade. Although Pie is sucking up a storm right now in the Minors.
How about AJ. Burnett????
