NBC Sports officials are trying to persuade Brett Favre to make good on his earlier commitment to make his debut in the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe, a tournament spokesman said Tuesday. The former Packers quarterback told tournament officials in early May he would play for the first time in the 19th annual celebrity event July 11-13 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe, Nev. But his representatives sent an e-mail to NBC officials late Friday that said he was "probably not coming" due to a scheduling conflict.

Free golf at Lake Tahoe? Brett, what are you thinking? I can fill in.......

June 18, 2008  07:50 AM ET

A scheduling conflict? What, Farve cant switch around another one of his Wrangler commercial shoots? Selfish you Mr. Favre.

June 18, 2008  08:09 AM ET

Is there any chance Brett will dry up and blow away? Suppose not.

June 18, 2008  08:54 AM ET

His scheduling conflict is his pre-season workouts. He's calling off retirement. Somewhere Aaron Rogers is curled up in the fetal position crying.

Well, if he doesn't participate in this highly publicized tourney where he would be on TV for 4 days straight, wouldn???t that be exactly what he is doing you nitwit? Or do your anti-Favre statements come out like a bad case of Turrets making you post before you actually think about what you are saying?

Is that all it would take to make Brett go away forever--to not be on TV for four days straight? Wow, I'm impressed with your logic.

You left out a very important piece of my quote, it will answer your follow up question.

"Or do your anti-Favre statements come out like a bad case of Turrets making you post before you actually think about what you are saying?"

Next time read the whole posts before your Turrets compels you to post without thinking yet again.

It doesn't look as though Brett honors his commitments. He's come out of retirement how many times? He made a commitment to NBC to play in a highly publicized event but now he has to renege on that commitment. Do I hate Brett? No, but neither do I love him as you apparently do.

June 18, 2008  11:02 AM ET

He's come out of retirement zero times genius. lol

My apologies then for mistakenly thinking he had.

After flirting with retirement for years, Brett Favre means it this time. The Green Bay Packers quarterback quit Tuesday after a 17-season career in which he dazzled fans with his grit, heart and rocket of an arm.

"I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired," Favre, a three-time NFL MVP, told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message.

Flirting with is not actually doing.

Favre's scheduling conflict is- Thursday is mow the lawn day and Friday he has to tend to the cattle. Saturday and Sunday are spent hunting.

Favre was under the impression he could just throw the golf ball down the fairway he didn't know he had to use golf clubs !!!

June 19, 2008  09:50 AM ET

does this all me Farvre is mounting a come back?
or am I mis informed

June 19, 2008  11:00 AM ET

I'm hoping Farve make the PGA tour, so a whole new batch sportswriters can fall in love with him and have a odd longing to hold his jock.

Favre is a good golfer, I think he has like a 4 or 5 handicap. And now he really gets a chance to work on his game. *sniff*
