Why Wheeler picked Bruins

Blake Wheeler, the towering free agent winger from the University of Minnesota, advised his agent yesterday to finalize terms of a contract with the Bruins, a two-year deal that won't be made official until July 1. "More than 20 NHL teams were interested in Blake, and this was a very tough decision," said Wellesley-based agent Matt Keator, who also represents Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. "And ultimately it came down to a few things for Blake, but mostly that he was comfortable with where the Bruins were headed as an organization - how this year they brought along kids like David Krejci, Milan Lucic, and Mark Stuart.

Awsome, I said he was a jerk unless he went to Boston. He's no longer a jerk, as long as he scores some goals that is. If not then he's a jerk again.

With Boston being an original six, it would be nice to see that organization competetive again. But Boston already has the cheating patriots, Red Socks, and now the Celtics! Enough you guys! You're getting greedy up there!

pats cheated, I wouldn't put the bruins in the champ category of the Sox and Celtics yet. They're at least getting more enjoyable to watch though,

June 18, 2008  08:06 AM ET

he must be a glutton for punishment to have made this decision.

June 18, 2008  08:15 AM ET

He also chose them because he's hoping they bring the yellow teddy bear jersey's back.

Boston, lively city, historic franchise.. A good place for this young man.

To give BGM some morning wood.

Baun-ded .... BGM is quite excited enough about all this (if last night's posts are anything to go by) without seeing a picture of Chara today.

I hope Wheeler is as good as he's being made out to be, otherwise he'll get slaughtered on here (that's if the "Spurning Gretzky" Curse doesn't get him first).

June 18, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Oilers...that Gretzky curse is for real man. But lets not burst BGM's bubble just yet...hahahahaha

I'm telling you, he was so excited last night ... he's probably been out celebrating and is yet to surface. Or maybe he's reflecting on the Gretzky curse that might be heading his team's way ....

DAVID STERN S***S too!

His reason for signing was that the Bruins brought along their young talent? Didnt Phoenix have a ton of young talent on the ice last year? They had like 10 or 11 key lplayers 24 or younger including Mueller, Hanzal and Turris. Plus they added Bryzgalov in net. They are a definate team on the rise. Methinks I smell a load of crap...

June 18, 2008  10:42 AM ET

He's too busy using both hands trying to find and post a picture of some player named B. Orr that he so egregiously left off his site. From his pics you'd think he thinks NEELY IS BETTER THAN ORR hahahahha.

There is a lot of young talent in Pheonix and they will be in the mix of things quite possibly in a few years, but it seems he wanted to play in more of a hockey market, not to mention that Boston has a much better chance of doing well in the next few years, I would argue anyway, and his agent is Chara's agent too,

June 18, 2008  12:25 PM ET

he just wants to play with his old drinking buddy, Phil Kessel.

June 18, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Wheeler is a hack. I've watched him play his years at Breck HS and the UofM. Great HS player but played with no heart at the college level. He had moments of playing to his hype and potential but for being 6'4" he plays like he is 5'6". He expected to have everything handed to him at the U but when push came to shove he just didn't seem to try.. Good luck wheeler going up against NHL players who actually want to play the game.
