Don't believe Mayo-to-Miami talk

It should appear blatantly obvious that the O.J. Mayo-to-Miami talk is just the type of subterfuge the Heat loves being a part of this time of year, whether it is picking second or 22nd. And it is only fitting Mayo and Miami are playing off each other to create an artificial buzz. Mayo, as many in the business are convinced, is a masterful con man himself, even as a 20-year-old. No, if Miami is going to hold on to the No. 2 pick, it won't be Mayo sporting the Heat jersey. It will be Michael Beasley, regardless of how hesitant the Heat front office is about him (and word is there is a very real concern coming from Miami). There is no excuse for not taking the best player available that night in the draft.

I hear them talking. When the Bulls draft beasley this will all be forgotten. Tell Mayo Get ready for seattle

June 18, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Miami should trade this pick. See if Denver will take the 2nd pick, Ricky Davis and another contract for Marcus Camby and a draft pick.

I'm really confused as to why all this hype is surrounding O.J. Marbury (as I like to call him), the guy doesn't know what he is, is he a PG that can score or is he an undersized SG? He wasn't a good shooter in college so where does that translate in the pros? Look at the two teams who just played for the title, they both had PG's that knew what they were and SG's who knew what they were. O.J. is going to put up hollow numbers and his team will lose, but of course we all know there are plenty fans of that in Fan Nation, so I'm sure he'll amass an apologetic fan base to make excuses for him. O.J. Mayo will be nothing special in the NBA, mark it down.

thank you pat riley please, do not pick him we don need a combo guard who hogs the ball pick beasley and then trade haslem for a point guard/draft picks and that will speed up the rebuildign process

June 18, 2008  11:17 AM ET

mayo is a good player but he is a poor mans wade

June 18, 2008  11:20 AM ET

miami draft beasley and trade haslem for T.J Ford

June 18, 2008  11:22 AM ET

Tj Ford can't make it through an NBA season, we have already had to deal with Shaq, Wade, Dorell and Jason Williams please do not add to the players known for frequent injury.

June 18, 2008  11:30 AM ET

Heat Fan, go pop a zit or something. Get off the computer.

June 18, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Raptors are looking to deal Ford after Calderon spoke out in the media bout wanting to start but Colangelo is not an idiot. He will make the right choice (only stupid thing he did was draft Andrea but he's still has time to develop). Anyways Heat Fan Raptors will not trade Ford for Haslem because they need a centre (rebounding and defensive purposes) or a wing player that can put up decent numbers next to Bosh (18-20 points). Although Haslem is a banger and can rebound he doesn't fit the raptors needs. He basically plays the same postion as Bosh with a lot less of an offensive game. Putting him at centre wouldnt work out cause he is undersized. He could come off the bench but we already have a deep bench. However, we dont have a good starting line up as half of our line up minus Bosh, Calderon and maybe parker the rest of our line up would be on the bench for any other team. Look for the raptors to package, ford, moon (maybe or graham) and the 17th pick for a wing player maybe magette unless hes already a free agent or maybe FINGER CROSSED luol deng but lol thats prbly just wishful thinking cause we have nothing chicago would want. If we do deal with miami maybe ricky davis but im not to high on him.

Beasly over Rose any day!

June 18, 2008  12:51 PM ET

Tell Mayo, get ready for Minneapolis. The next D Wade arrives in Twin Cities.
No "poor man's..." about it. But the heat are blowing smoke unless they are actually contemplating moving down. Not going to happen.

June 18, 2008  01:03 PM ET

Both of them are overrated primadonnas who care about their sportscenter highlights and next rap video appearance much more than helping a struggling team win.

" The next D Wade arrives in Twin Cities. ...No "poor man's..."

Are you serious?
lets see how he does playing against MEN in the NBA- not the soft pac 10

June 18, 2008  01:15 PM ET

And we shall see. That is the way it works.

June 18, 2008  01:26 PM ET

Pretty sure OJ is good at everything, and will be an all star in no time. He shot well in college and facilitated the offense as a point guard when USC realized the ball better when he has the ball and not off it. Wolves, you better draft this guy. I will not forgive the drafting of a big slow unathletic white guy.

June 18, 2008  01:26 PM ET

Look, I should add, I think D-Wade is great! I just think the juice/condiment combination is going to be better than it sounds. Moya will also be great. The difference, as with Wade, is whether he will have the big guy or other key pieces around him to do anything with.

Please,,,the Pac-10 has been anything but soft.

June 18, 2008  01:27 PM ET

Shame about calling him "Moya" after the juice/condiment remark.

June 18, 2008  01:38 PM ET

I predict Mayo will be the overrated BUST in this year's draft

June 18, 2008  02:04 PM ET

Why is it a forgone conclusion Rose is going to Chicago. Beasly is a better fit for the team right now. But I think that it would be smart for the Heat to draft Beasly if he is the second pick.
