Yankees give Ponson a chance

Bloated, boozy and disruptive, Sidney Ponson is being given yet another fat chance by the Yankees. This says more about the Yankees' rotation desperation than Ponson's skill. The veteran right-hander was just bounced from yet another team. That it was the pitching-starved Rangers and that Ponson was actually 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA at the time should give you a road map to just what a prince Ponson is.

Do you smell that? It's called desperation ...

This guy is mean and nasty. If the pitching doesn't work out, he could become a Yankee fan.

June 19, 2008  07:23 AM ET

The only pitcher in MLB whose contract incentives include beer.

June 19, 2008  07:41 AM ET

Why don't they stop fooling around and just go out and sign Bonds?

June 19, 2008  08:04 AM ET

Do we need any more proof that their is collusion to NOT sign Bonds? If Elijah "I'm one tantrum away from murdering some children" Dukes has a job and Ponson has a job, something fishy going on..

June 19, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Oh no.

June 19, 2008  08:29 AM ET

The Yankees have no need for this putz. The pitching staff is loaded with promising youts.

June 19, 2008  08:30 AM ET

Sydney Pondscum, I am reminded of Major League where they see Jake Taylor coming to spring training and they say wish we had him 5 years ago and the other guy says we did have him 5 years ago. We went through this in 2006 and it wasnt fun. 2 years later could he be better? Doubtful

June 19, 2008  08:31 AM ET

Well if he DOES show up at the Stadium, I expect him to wear a proper tie, and a suit - and that suit better be made out of some kind of cloth.

The Yanks are a miserable team. Even though I am a Red Sox fan, I have the utmost respect for Jeter & Arod as ball players. The Yanks haven't done anythingin 10 years or so. Ponson & their young talents aren't the answer.

Young talent isn't the answer. I don't even know how to respond to that. I hold you in contempt of intelligence.

I for one, am looking forward to Susyn Waldman's Bloated, boozy and disruptive annoucement when Sidney comes into a game the 1st time!

As a Yankee fan I can say what an stupid move we make. He was worthless last time around. The pitching is actually doing well right now. Pull a damn minor leaguer up and give them a chance. As far as the about young talent, I second your motion Atro.

So ordered.

Hey, it didn't cost them anything. He can eat some innings.

Innings are not the only things he can eat apparently

How exactly do you conclude the Yankees are a miserable team? The 13 playoff appearences in a row? Being only 5.5 back in June? Winning 6 in a row?

June 19, 2008  09:27 AM ET

pitching has always been thin, there is just not enough arms to go around, so he will be in the minors to see what happens. no big deal. he was 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA? not bad. Is he a nut job? absolutely, while in the minors, if no bar fights and decent pitching bring him up for a game or two. embarrasses the team? bye bye...
