Wade's knee OK for Olympics

Dwyane Wade has passed his first test. Now, the world awaits. His surgically repaired left knee deemed up to rigorous competition, the Heat guard has been informed he will receive one of 12 U.S. Olympic basketball berths when the team for the Beijing Games formally is announced Monday. Two sources close to the process confirmed the selection Wednesday. Jerry Colangelo, the former Phoenix Suns executive who heads the Olympic basketball committee, met last week with Wade in Chicago and came away convinced that the Heat guard is up to the challenge of the grueling Games commitment.

Even if Wade's knee still had problems, and he was "not up to the challenge", the US team should still be able to win. I realize that in recent years, other countries' teams have beaten the US team, which is shameful considering the talent that's on the US roster.
In fact, it would make it more interesting to have a hobbled guard on the floor, just to see if the other team can win against the US team.

I'm sure Pat Riley is thrilled.

notbychoice...lol...i'm sure am though. with him and kobe rotating starting...kobe first quarter, wade, second, split 3rd and both in fourth, we will see who's the most dominate of the two, who makes their teammates better, and even better, some exciting basketball. DWade gives the glory to other players usually. he'll let Lebron and Melo take over, but during the last medals, he took the big shots. kobe starts hot, ends cold. Wade cold, hot by the last quarter. should be awesome. Anybody know who the center and PF will be?

Of course his knee is well enough to play in the games. He rested enough trying to get a top draft spot!

my heaters are gonna have a good 08-09 season wether we get Beasly or Rose hopefully Beasly & waive Marcus Banks & return Dooling to the team.
Wade should rest for his up & coming bounce back with a flash season!

Exactly!

Why does he look so smug in that picture? His team was horrible this year.

Oh well, good luck in the Olympics and please bring the gold back where it belongs.

I love D.Wade, but he's damaged goods. Chris Paul or Deron Williams will provide much better support in the Guard role than D.Wade.
Why is D. Wade automatically under consideration for this spot?

Agreed.. Dwade will probably not be as effective as CP or Dwill.. why not let someone who has been healthy get a roster spot?

Wade is dumb for wanting to play on the O team
he is sacrificing his PROFESSION for an exibition

He is a great player- but unfortunatley BRITTLE.
He should just rest & get stronger for next year

I notice 1 thing about these topics when ever its D Wade u have a negative comment but when its cp3, or Lebron u jabroni's love 2 ryde their nuts & Lebron & cp3 are not about 2 win a championship n e time soon @ least D Wade has done what they have failed 2 do.

Wade owes it to the HEAT organization to sit it out and rest up for next season.

June 19, 2008  01:48 PM ET

yeah they said the same thing to bernard king, the knee is fine, dont worry

June 19, 2008  02:12 PM ET

of course he is ready for the Olympics...another opportunity to sell himself...wanna bet he has another "injury" before the regular season starts!?!

Chris Paul and Deron Williams are point guards. Wade is a shooting guard. He is not jeopardizing his future by playing in the Olympics, nor is he taking a better player's roster spot.

June 19, 2008  04:32 PM ET

He should rest up and play hard for the Heat due to there awful record last year. The Olympics are great, but the US team somehow always manages to get the bronze or silver because the rest of the world caught up and play more team basketball.

June 20, 2008  12:49 AM ET

Basically it's his choice wether he wants to participate in the Olympics or not. He's not obligated to do so and he wouldn't be the first superstar to back out of if he did. I don't believe for one second he would jeopardize his future if he was 100% fully confident that his knee was healed. In the end he is the one taking the risk, but he could just as well re-injure himself in a summer pick up game or in a Heat preseason game. You can criticize him all you want but I'm sure in the end D-Wade's gonna' do what's best for D-Wade, and not what's best for Pat Riley.
