Tech losing recruit to Duke?

It was four steps forward and one step backward for Georgia Tech's Class of 2009 recruiting class this week. After adding four new commitments over the weekend, the Jackets have learned that John Drew of Northside, Columbus no longer plans to play college football at Tech. Northside coach Paul Cates confirmed Drew's decision to de-commit then refused further commit. The 6-foot-1, 300-pound lineman may now be leaning toward Duke. "I just had a change of heart," Drew told DevilsIllustrated. "I thought I made my choice a little too early and I didn't give everybody a fair chance. Plus, I really didn't like the location of Atlanta. It's real big and a lot of stuff can happen there. I just don't want to be in a place that's huge. Academics will be a big part of my decision."

When you start losing recruits to Duke, and it's not in basketball, I think the writing is on the wall.... Good news though Tech fans, you'll still be the only school from a major conference running the Triple Option on EVERY play.

It's one recruit. Calm down.

I am not sure who to feel sorry for - I can see why he doesnt want to come to Atlanta - exciting nightlife, beautiful women, lots to do - makes much more sense to go to Durham where there is...uh....well.....Tech does suck though so I guess he has a point

Did anyone tell this kid that Duke doesnt have a football team they just have a program. If its a football jersey he wants they give them free with any purchase from Duke.com

yeah, go to dook and get railroaded on phony charges by an overzealous district attorney and watch how the school and community immediately jump to the conclusion that you are guilty because you are a non-basketball playing male athlete, who by nature, is just pure evil. enjoy yourself ???. lol

leaving GT to go play football at Duke. When was the last time Duke had a player drafted in the NFL?

June 20, 2008  12:11 AM ET

Yes, the location of Atlanta is too close to Athens. I guess I would be scared, too. Georgia's defensive linemen are real big, and a lot of stuff can happen. Like, this Mama's boy getting pancaked about every other play.

I'm glad he changed his mind. The last thing the Jackets need in this new era is someone that's soft.

Nineteen, I thought the same thing. If this kid walks around Durham, he'll need to wear body armor. The actions of the DA in the lacrosse case were criminal, but the response of the university was not suprising. Black female accuses white males of a crime.... I would expect the same response from most universities.

That is weird though to opt out of going to a good D1 program to one that just had their lawyers argue in court that they were the worst football program in the country.
