Agent: Hossa rumors untrue
Penguins general manager Ray Shero and Marian Hossa's agent, Rich Winter, had agreed not to speak with reporters about the negotiations for a new contract. But rampant speculation -- and what Winter termed misinformation -- prompted the agent to break his silence yesterday. Several media outlets have reported that the Penguins extended a contract offer of between $50-52 million over seven years to Hossa, but Winter said those reports were off-base. Hossa, it appears, is the top priority for the Penguins, who are awaiting a decision from him before moving on to their other free agents. Hossa, who made $7 million last season, said during the Stanley Cup playoffs that money was not the overriding factor in a new contract. He indicated that he would take less money from the Penguins because they have a chance to win a championship.

They had a chance to win the championship this year, and didn't do it.

Except for Marc Savard, who finished 3rd in NHL for assists and ahead of Hossa in points, despite not having a legitimate sniper to play with. Hossa on the other hand played with one of the leagues best goal scorers, although on a crappy overall team. That being said I think Hossa will find his happy place in Pittsburgh and have a great year next year. Whether he'll outproduce Savard will remain to be seen.

This just in Pengy fans....Malkin could be on the move by the weekend as it appears the Pens covet a top ranked defenceman from the draft....
Article.
Trying to pry the No. 2 pick away from the Los Angeles Kings and get into the first round, league sources say Pittsburgh general manager Ray Shero has dangled all-star centre Evgeni Malkin to the Kings in a deal that may have included centre Mike Cammalleri going the other way.
------------------------
It also appears The Leafs are trying to work out a deal with the NYI for their #5 draft pick tha involves McCabe. The Leafs covet Pietrangelo.

This is going to get to be a very interesting next few days.
Not that anyone can compete with that monterous aquisition the Bruins made for Wheeler...but who knows.

Why so down on the Bruins? Oh you're a Leaf and Habs fan. Worried the Habs won't be able to beat the Bruins out of the playoffs again, and yes that is getting pretty old already, beat someone else for a change next year. And the leafs well, they are what they are for the time being, nuff said.

I do not believe Malkin wil be traded this year. He has one more yr under contract. They can deal with him and Stahl next yr and or trade him/rights then. No reason to do it now. If they can get an extension done fine- But trading malkin for a #2 pick rookie and a D man does not make any sense with Malone gone this yr. Shero would not do that

I'd keep Malkin and dump Hossa.
So naturally I hope Pittsburgh does the opposite.

1. you KNOW that the first poster is that idiot patriotscheated
2. I heard the same thing on the Malkin deal...but then again that's just spec
3. I DO believe that signing Hossa is the Pens number 1 priority..or at least should be ( ie see Crosby LIKES Hossa..so Hossa will stay)

I'd keep Hossa and get rid of Malkin. Malkin deserves to be the star of the franchise somewhere and he won't get that in Pittsburgh, plus Hossa is still very good, but won't take up as much cap space as Malkin would
