Pistons guard Chauncey Billups withdrew his name from consideration for the U.S. Olympic basketball team Tuesday, according to a report by ESPN. Billups was under consideration for one of the two final guard spots, competing with Chris Paul of the Hornets and Deron Williams of the Jazz. The final roster for the Beijing Olympics is to be announced Monday. Craig Miller, a USA Basketball representative, would not comment specifically on Billups on Tuesday. He only would state all roster issues will be completed and discussed publicly next week. ESPN reported Billups called USA Basketball director Jerry Colangelo to quit, citing a family concern.

Family concern = I don't want the shame of getting cut.

Woah. There's that picture of him again.
Is it Kenny from South Park?
Or is it Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars?

Did you see the Olympics last time around? There's more shame not getting cut and losing... Billups is a premier guard, and would never get cut.

Next headline involving Billups? Report: Billups out of Detroit?

June 19, 2008  08:46 AM ET

he was off the olympic team before he decided to remove himself. but in all honesty for point guards, i would have kept him and tj ford. doesn't kidd already have a olympic gold medal with one of the dream teams? kobe, wade, melo, bron, paul, kidd...1, 2, 3 positions are easy...i'm wondering who will be at the 4 and 5.

June 19, 2008  09:14 AM ET

I can understand why he would withdraw if he has to COMPETE with Chris Paul and Deron Williams. He wouldn't stand a chance against two young premier players like that!

cp3 & D Will are better pg's than Mr. Big Flop Billups flopping makes u soft & Billups has become very soft D Will may flop but he does it in a good way & doesnt blow things out of porportion when he gets hit but Mr Big Flop o man what a cry baby flopping girl detroit should have gotten rid of him when my Heaters shamed them & when on 2 win a title!

Good point. The Heat were very tough this year. What a warrior D-Wade is, fought to carry his team to a top draft pick. Remember the time Billups left the floor crying? Oh wait, that wasn't Billups being wheeled off...

June 19, 2008  09:46 AM ET

If I was making the pick, Billups is #3 on that list anyway.

And he is on the Pistons trade list, he can not afford to get hurt.

June 19, 2008  10:46 AM ET

Hey thanks biminator...you took the words right out of my mouth. I don't think I'd be making fun of ANY team if I were a heat fan.

June 19, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Family Concern equals I did not want to make long flight to Beijing. Hey, I understand. I did it once 13 hours from NYC!

June 19, 2008  11:33 AM ET

Both Deron and Chris should already be on the team. I disagree with Jason Kidd being on the team. It is a new era and the US needs to bring in the youth.

June 19, 2008  12:23 PM ET

The man is SMART....
he knows how long an NBA season is- including playoffs.

for the good of his TEAM- he is getting rest so he will be ready for next year.....I totally respect him for this.

Paul & williams are like 22....they don't need rest

Kidd should do the SAME as Billups- bow out gracefully for the good of his team

June 19, 2008  12:23 PM ET

Wade had a fractured shoulder biminator u know even after his injury he played thru this whole season & still was in top 5 scoring since billups won a championship in 04 what has he done since nothing become a flopping beyotch Wade may have been wheeled off with a serious injury but he has still put up numbers & he doesnt flop like a girl like Mr big flop billups.

June 19, 2008  01:06 PM ET

the Dee of dees,

Are you serious? Billups led a team to contend for the National Championship. Wade led a team to content for the top draft pick...

Wade can put up all the numbers in the world, there is only one number that matters at the end of a game, and thats the number of wins.

Since when is Billups a flopper? If by flopper you mean he falls over when fouled, yes. If by flopper you're trying to compare him to Side Show Bob, no...

If Wade is so good, why are there so many rumors that the Heat are looking for a trade partner to dump him? I don't know why I am even responding, your posts make you sound like your still working on your second grade diploma. Good luck with that.

Go make babies with Heat Fan. You two would make a great couple. You could talk about unrealistic trades and discuss your man love for D-Wade.

June 19, 2008  01:13 PM ET

Dee of dees,

Suggestion: when you have your Heat Fan friend over, put a "No Mom Allowed" sign on your "fort" in your parents basement. Don't worry, she will still drop off your sandwich at lunch time and pick out your clothes for the day.

thats the only way he would avoid being embarrased by paul or deron, those guys are the best right now

June 19, 2008  01:44 PM ET

I think its smart on BILLUP's part to rest up. The Pistons have been in the playoffs for the past decade and if one was to add all the playoff games, he played an additional season.

Its good for the younger players, but the older veterans need the rest since they play the bulk of the minutes during the regular season and playoffs.

That isn't a concern. Krzyzewski has said he will keep 3 point guards. That's why they invited Jason Kidd to camp.

I would rather have Billups than D Williams. Billups is a scrappy player, the kind of guy the US needs against those soft europeons
