Who may benefit with Tiger gone

Five golfers who should benefit from Tiger's absence: Sergio Garcia lost the British Open in a playoff last year and has the confidence after winning The Players Championship. Despite his immense talent, Woods seems to have gotten in Ernie Els' head more than others. Look for Els to play with more confidence as he tries to win his second Claret Jug. At the PGA Championship: The last time they played a major at Oakland Hills, he was fifth. The last time they played a major at Oakland Hills, Jim Furyk was fifth. The 21-year-old Anthony Kim, dripping with talent, will be like so many others trying to make the PGA Championship their first major title. In the Ryder Cup, Phil Mickelson has to step up and be the leader for the Americans.

Everyone else on tour. They may actually have a chance now.

Certainly not the sponsors.

We're all holding our breath for the return of Bob May.

one word...........everyone!! Tiger's leaving opens the door for many solid golfers. Better enjoy it now... he will be back! The sponsors and the sport itself.. will suffer.

Pig t*ts Mickleson will still choke down the stretch 9 out of 10 times, with or without Tiger involved

June 19, 2008  11:35 AM ET

We won't win the Ryder Cup but I don't think we would have won it with Tiger. Tiger's record in the Ryder Cup is well not par.

It will be interesting to see who can put it all together and win the Open Championship though. Mickelson has not played great in past British Opens but he is the number 2 player in the world and probably the favorite. My bet is it is a nobody though. As long a Ser-gay-o does not win I will be happy.

Amen to that c note. He is a deush with a capital "D". My pick is Justin Rose.

bookmakers?

This is the perfect chance for the rest of the young guns. Get some confidence. Improve the game. When Tiger gets back I'd love to see some serious competition so I don't have to hear any more of this crap that he's only good because he has no competition.
You got a year guys.....do something with it!

All anyone has to do to turn the attention away from Tiger is beat him, but so far, it seems only Aesculapius (the God of Health) has won a round against him.

CBS will be the biggest loser. But dont worry Tiger worshippers Im sure they will be giving up to the minute updates on his rehab in between shots

A shorter article would be who wouldnt benefit..

June 19, 2008  02:40 PM ET

...at last check he was still favored to win the British Open and PGA!

June 19, 2008  02:41 PM ET

Me! And those that can't stand that idiot either. Don't come back ****.

June 19, 2008  02:41 PM ET

Phil would benefit from a sports bra!

June 19, 2008  02:45 PM ET

Who will benefit? Everyone with a PGA tour card!!!

June 19, 2008  03:28 PM ET

I feel sorry for Dan Jenkins.

Now he has to sit down and write more chapters to his book of Lamentations.

He's got to come up with an entirely new hero all over again.

Poor Dan.

Who's going to benefit from Tiger gone? That's easy. Everyone.

The only players that will benefit are the journeyman golfers or players that had the talent like Rocco, but because of injury has never been able to put it together.
Phil could have a chance, but he allows for the critics to choose his clubs for him. Example: 2 years ago he lost the U.S. Open because he used driver instead of 4 wood and this year he shows up with 3 wood and no driver probably as a result of being criticized for his club selection two years ago. Also since he has gone to a fade, Phil now misses more fairways.
Sergio, puttin woes and considers himself an elite without playing like one when it matters.
Ernie is lost with his swing, Stricker is burned out, and Vijah's age is catching up.
Notice that these players want to be the #1 rank players in the world because they don't have to be paired with Tiger to become #1 and they are not willing to do it face to face. This is why Tiger doesn't like Phil, he recognizes Phil's talent. But he chokes when it counts instead of rising to the occasion like Rocco did. I believe that Tiger realizes that he will over take Jack's record and will not be recognized because he doesn't have the contemporaries that Jack did.
