No Rangers offer for Jagr, Avery

Glen Sather has told agents representing more than one of the Rangers' five significant impending unrestricted free agents that he has no intention of signing any of them prior to July 1, The Post has learned. Thus, barring an unexpected preemptive strike via a trade, the Blueshirts will enter the free agency market with a skeleton roster, absent first- and second-line wingers and a No. 1, first-pair defenseman, and with Jaromir Jagr, Sean Avery, Martin Straka, Brendan Shanahan and Michal Rozsival all free to solicit offers.

The Rangersa have to sign Bettman first.

June 20, 2008  09:10 AM ET

All of the above mentioned players did not live up to Sather's expectations (especially in the payoffs) so, Slats is cleaning house!

I'd keep Michal Rozsival, though!

You're the first person I've seen that agrees with me.

Hopefully not the last, Spiny!

Shanny needs to retire

June 20, 2008  10:03 AM ET

Shanahan should retire, I agree
Maybe Straka too?

BETTMAN S**S MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER GUESS!!!

June 20, 2008  10:04 AM ET

There is a surprise!

No offers for a guy who only plays when he wants, and a true-blue basket case.

Go figure.

June 20, 2008  10:07 AM ET

I'd take Shanny and Avery in a second. Avery was hurt in the playoffs thats why he didn't play to his potential. Sather is a fool for letting him go.

Jagr played with intensity in the playoffs and made things happen. It's the regular season everyone seems to worry about, and with good reason. What's with that and why would a player of his skills lose so much motivation so early in his career??? Truly he only played up to his potential in Pittsburgh.
Anyway, why not offer him a 1 or 2 year contract of moderate worth and see if he bites. Me-thinks he really doesn't want to go to Finland, or is that Russia?

I'd take Shanny and Avery in a second.

Shanahan looked old and done to me.

June 20, 2008  10:22 AM ET

I am not going to go to any Rangers games next season if this is true but rumor has it the Rangers are pursuing:

Brian kill the cap Campbell

and washed up overrated DARCY #@$#^ING TUCKER TO REPLACE AVERY! HOW MUCH IS HE GOING TO WANT? ANY TAKERS!? Just sign Jagr jesus. It's only going to be about 2 million more.

I HATE YOU DOLAN AND SATHER!!! DIE!!!

June 20, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Jagr doubters should smack themselves. Jagr haters can eat a fat one.

Who was leading the playoffs in points up until elimination? He kind of looks like the guy on my avatar.

June 20, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Jagr never seems to be able to catch any slack .....

I believe that was you OO81 a couple of weeks ago. You had made reference to the comment I made about contract size and expectations when he came to DC, with some pointed sarcasm thrown in there as I recall.
Again, I would say that what I wrote above ( today ) is fair and would also wonder why a guy who developed a bad rep for underplaying while in DC would make a statement to the effect that he was playing at not full speed in the regular season to be ready for the playoffs. Even if were true, which by all accounts it was, why would you say it if you were trying to rehab your image????

June 20, 2008  10:54 AM ET

Who admitted that they sandbagged the reg season to save for the playoffs. The same person in your avatar.

I will LOL if NYR sign Darcy Tucker, hopefully the Pens will re-sign Rutuu so we can see more beatings next season.

June 20, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Shanahan still has a year or two left in the league. All because he doesnt put up the numbers like he use to doesnt mean he needs to retire. He acknowleges that he cant play like he use to and has adjusted his playing style, and by playing smart he is still an assest to the Rangers. I mean if we're using points to say who should retire, Malkin who didnt do anything during the playoffs should retire, and crosby hes been fallin too, he should just retire cuz the game seems a little too rough for him (O no i started a fight and a guy wants to hit me RUN FOR THE BENCH!!!)

June 20, 2008  11:26 AM ET

Oh look....a new person with absolutely nothing intelligent to say.......

June 20, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Okay, maybe I watched a different series than two guys up here did, but did Crosby have a bad finals and I just missed it?
What the heck are these people smoking...and why aren't they sharing?

BETTMAN S***S

o wow was the penguins rip a little to much for your handle, i'm sorry, and i dnt see you offering anything intellectual. its ok i didnt expect much

June 20, 2008  11:35 AM ET

Perfect time for Sather to clean up the (expensive) house and get some youngsters with real grit (but no playoff beards, as that's the only thing Jagr had to display...).
Keep Roszival, he's on the way up!

June 20, 2008  11:37 AM ET

If Yammy Jagr wants to come to Deadmonton and float about in the regular season I'll take him. As long as he shows up for the playoffs I couldn't care less.

And if Avery wants to hitch a ride with him that's a good thing as well.

Crosby had an average finals in my opinion. Got pushed around and smothered.

Nothing but the best (BC Bud) and I never share.
