Ducks give Niedermayer more time

The Ducks are preparing for Friday's NHL entry draft in Ottawa, but what Scott Niedermayer is preparing for trumps that, and that means no immediate decision on whether the All-Star defenseman will play next season or retire. Niedermayer and his wife, Lisa, are expecting the delivery of their fourth child at any moment, General Manager Brian Burke said today, and would be given more time to decide his future. "He's got much bigger fish to fry now," Burke said. Niedermayer had been given until today to decide whether he would honor the final year of his contract with the Ducks or retire, but Burke said today that the deadline had been tentative and that he now expects a decision next week or at least by July 1, the first day of free agency.

IS this pregnancy/due date a surprise? Last I knew, it takes 9 months. In that 9 months, you plan for your future. If I were Burke, the deadline would remain unchanged.

Come on, Scotty. Be a man this time. Take a decision for Christ's sake! Don't you get it? If you're already wondering IF you should retire does that not tell a lot about your real commitment to your teamates if you come back?

**** off already Niedermayer, need your ego stroked again do you?

June 20, 2008  12:41 PM ET

JUST RETIRE, youve have a great career. If you come back to play and you do horrible thats what people are gonna remember you for

The Lame-Ducks will give Niedermayer another 6 months if he wants it. They'll let him rest up on the beach for half a season again and then depending on how their doing in the standings, they'll bend-over, grab their ankles, and wecome him back again with open arms.

June 20, 2008  10:25 PM ET

Oh for heaven's sake, I'll pay you to retire. Go away already. Your constant procrastination is giving me a migraine.
