Former Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders, dismissed by the Detroit Pistons after they lost to the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs, said he has no regrets about not being available when the coaching job at Minnesota, his alma mater, was available a year ago. "I made a commitment to Detroit and had an obligation to fulfill that contract, and it wouldn't have been fair to them or the players to leave," he said.

Flip'll get another NBA job pretty soon............

Flip will be taking an overpaid year off and then will be in a prime position to take on the matured, ready to explode Sonics (wherever they're located). PJ is just a filler coach paid to play and lose, stock pile talent, then be used as the eventual scapegoat.

its not his fault that he wasnt really given much to work with i mean not saying he had bad players just none that could take over the game..i think he will be fine....maybe his next team wont be a bunch of underachiving babies!

June 20, 2008  06:25 PM ET

Flip's teams either underachieve or very occasionally 'achieve' --- but he has never been able to help a team overachieve.

I think Flip should "back off" coaching for a year and wait until the right position opens up - he is a very good NBA coach !!!

"its not his fault that he wasnt really given much to work with i mean not saying he had bad players just none that could take over the game."

This might be one of the dumbest comments I have EVER read here.....

THE PISTONS HAVE MADE 6 STRAIGHT CONFERENCE FINALS-
- how was there nothing to work with?

fact is he did NOTHING n Minn for 10 yearrs and did notthing to IMPROVE detroid......he is simply not a championship caliber coach

June 20, 2008  11:28 PM ET

He should have been fired after last year's playoff loss ... when Bron scored 28 consecutive points (or some obscene number) without the opposing coach making adjustments, that coach does not deserve to keep his job.

Best of luck

Detroit players should have not gone to single coverage, the players were cocky before he got there. Hopefully Billups is thanking him for having a career. Flip should have gotten the bulls job.

strike my previous comment.....
THIS is the dumbest thing I ever read

The COACH calls the D- not the players.......
Billups was great BEFORE flip arrived.

And the Gophers ended up with Tubby Smith, so I'm guessing they don't have any regrets either.
