After the Nuggets' final playoff game this season, Allen Iverson sat at the postgame podium and said he wanted to return to Denver next season. On Friday, Iverson's agent confirmed that Iverson will not opt out of his contract, and will return to Denver next season, making $20.84 million in the final year of his contract. The Nuggets can try to extend his contract this summer. If that doesn't happen, Iverson will become a free agent in July of 2009.

It would be hard to opt out of almost $21 million.

The bigger question is, who will Denver trade AI to this year? With that expiring contract, it's gonna happen. And how will that affect the playoff race?

With that LARGE expiring contract- they have lots of options.
trade....imagine hiim with LeBon or Billups
re-sign....and dump melo who could bring back alot (picks & players)
OR
resign and get a new coach....stay pat- maybe it's just Karl

Dump Melo and get Iverson an extension.

We'll see what they do this summer

"Iverson returning to Nuggets"

Imagine that...

June 21, 2008  01:52 PM ET

Well you can mark the Nuggets down as NOT winning the championship.

It's simple realy any team that trades for Iverson is not going to win a championship so why do it other than to put fannies in the seats and sell jerseys? And given the fact that he just turned 33, the tread on his tires is starting to wear. Given his reckless abandoment style of play you wonder how much longer he can keep it up? As far a playoff team willing to take a one-year trial risk with him why not Orlando? You could see in the playoffs how much they struggled to score. And I would take Iverson over Jameer Nelson any day of the week and twice on Sundays! Plus Orlando's one of a handfull of teams I'm sure Iverson wouldn't be opposed to being traded to. As far as what Orlando could offer in return that becomes a little trickier. We all know Denver's starved for a "true" starting point guard but unfortunately I don't see one on the radar as far as Orlando's concerned. Maybe a package of Nelson, Redick, Brian Cook and their #22 pick might do? It's not like the Nuggest can expect to receive a king's ransom for Iverson with his age and at this stage of his career.

Um....NO

why not just trade iverson for a couple of jock straps?

Seriously.....why would anyone want those garbage pieces?

It's not like the Nuggest are going to get anywhere near fair value for Iverson. People wake the hell up! The man's 33, not 23! If Philly couldn't get fair value for Iverson when they traded him to Denver what makes you think the Nuggest will do any better? If you recall all Philly got for Iverson was Andre Miller, Joe Smith and 2 first round picks. Last I checked I don't consider Miller and Smith 'franchise' players! and Smith's not even on the team anymore! With those oh so sexy picks the Sixers drafted Dequan Cook who was promptly traded to Miami for some guy named Jason Smith and then drafted Petteri Kottonen. Who?! My point exactly! And no Thaddeus Young doesn't count because he was Philly's own draft pick. If that's considered a better deal for Iverson then I should become a used car salesman!
