Suns shopping Barbosa, Diaw

Since the season ended, any Suns deal figured to include Leandro Barbosa or Boris Diaw. Consideration for such moves has accelerated and cooled in recent weeks but remains a possibility with Phoenix looking to move up in Thursday's draft order or acquire another first-round pick to go with its No. 15 selection. With Barbosa, the talks of most substance have been with Portland and New York. A Portland deal would have sent 21-year-old swingman Martell Webster, next week's No. 13 pick and another piece for Barbosa.

My goodness, look how old Porter looks!

Ronburgandy - we've been over that issue before. Look through the Truth and Rumor archives until you find the previous article with this same picture.
Terry Porter is a "Wise Old Man" type of coach, and that type has worked well with the Suns in the past (Cotton Fitzimmons).

One more thing. It is fitting that the Suns hire an old-looking, "old-school" type of coach.
Steve Kerr was Michael Jordan's teammate and was led by him when they were together with the Bulls.
Therefore, when Michael hires an old coach like Larry Brown, it is appropriate for Kerr to follow suit and hire an old man as well.

Back to the topic about trades, perhaps Phoenix should trade their entire team to the Knicks in return for all of the Knicks' draft picks - every last one of them - for the next five years.
Everyone should be happy with that.
D'Antoni gets to bring all his former players to New York with him and can basically pick up where he left off last year, running the same style of play that took the Suns into the playoffs the past few years. Whereas the Suns went as far as they could in the Playoffs before being stopped by one of the top Texas teams, they would essentially be moving to New York, where they could potentially win the weaker East. (For one thing, it would be great to show that the Celtics can be beat by a speedy, fast-break running team.)
Phoenix gets to add to their own draft picks with many new ones. In essence, they get to rebuild by choosing many of the best players out of college for several years. It is a perfect opportunity for Steve Kerr to test his basketball acumen and ability to put together his own custom-built competitive team.

Put the pipe down!! Do you even know anything about basketball? Or do you just enjoy seeing your comments in print? Perhaps you've noticed that noone even responds to your nonsense.

Steve Kerr has taken a Suns team that had an identity and was close to the summitt and ruined it. Shaq is washed up, Nash is getting closer to the rocking chair, and the best overall player is now in Miami. Suns fans, welcome to the 2010 draft lottery.

June 21, 2008  10:15 AM ET

If the Suns can get Webster, #13 AND another player for Barbosa, what the heck are they waiting for?!?!?

June 21, 2008  10:24 AM ET

cheesy texan **** yeah that deal just makes to much sense for stupid teams to actually do

blazers combo backcourt of roy and barbosa would be awesome

the suns need that pick and another defender

to good a deal so it aint getting done

only deals that involve millions of dollars under the table in order to get gasol for peanuts actually happen

If you believe that, you don't know basketball. Shaq is past his prime but still a force. The Suns had gone as far as they were going with Marion. How many times do you think they should have been bounced from the playoffs before making an adjustment? The Suns set because D'Antoni wouldn't employ a defense. It wasn't Shaq's fault that Tony Parker went through the whole team to the basket. And there are still only maybe 3 point guards in the NBA more productive than Nash.

Barbosa would help ALOT of teams....
Diaw- not so much.

Diaw is a product of the system he played....decent player....but NOT a difference maker...also he is SOFT
his career stats are 8 pts, 5 rbs & 4 assts....

He's basically a poor mans Lamar odom.
you aren't winning title with him as your # 2 or #3 piece

The Pacers have to get these two. The contracts don't work out well though. The best trade I got between the two teams was:

Barbosa and Raja Bell for Jamaal Tinsley, Shawne Williams, Stephen Graham, and the second round pick

typical IRISH DRUNKEN B()M that is the worst trade ive ever heard even on fannation - check yourself into AA immediately

June 21, 2008  11:16 AM ET

bell is well contracted and their best perimeter defender
barbosas value is quite high (good spark and low salary)

tinsley wont be going anywhere soon - at least not without a parole officer

irish you and tinsley would be a good pairing at a nightspot getting on the turps

June 21, 2008  11:24 AM ET

Tell it, your right. Kerr appears to want to build around Shaq. Who's next Nash?

June 21, 2008  11:28 AM ET

To me either the suns will trade both for a 3 and pick like Jefferson and the 10th pick. Or they will only trade Barbosa to Portland for Webster and 13th pick and then Diaw packaged to another team with the 15th pick to get a starting 3 like maybe Artest or Maggette.

June 21, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Barbosa to Toronto - the need speed and a slasher
Ford to Miami - will need a point - Rose is Chicago bound
Haslam to Phoenix - is solid, dependable and a good defender

... not sure if the $ work out though.

June 21, 2008  11:40 AM ET

Haslem is an undersized 4 and he isn't a very good rebounder, so why would the suns want him. Barbosa could actually help them more than Haslem and this trade would make no sense at all.

June 21, 2008  11:50 AM ET

Haslem is a very good PF, what are you smoking????

June 21, 2008  11:54 AM ET

Send barbosa and a pick to ATL for Josh Smith
