NFL looks into jailed Giant

The NFL is looking into whether Ahmad Bradshaw has violated the league's personal conduct policy and is subject to suspension. The Giants' running back has been in a Virginia jail since Sunday, serving a 30-day sentence for violating terms of a probation stemming from an undisclosed juvenile offense - a violation that, several sources say, took place prior to his being drafted last year. While Bradshaw's lawyer, family and friends have said that the running back has not committed any new offense or crime to violate the probation, the NFL is keeping an eye on the situation. If commissioner Roger Goodell deems that Bradshaw has violated the league's conduct policy code, he could suspend Bradshaw.

If this inprisonment is related to an under age drinking incedent it's completely rediculas....... 30 days ?
The guys 22 now and has stayed trouble free.
It sounds to me like someone down there has a personal grudge against him or his success.
Note to bradshaw : stay away from areas where people tend to marry their relatives !

A juvenile offense? Sealed because he was a minor? You got to be kidding commish. Think you have bigger problems with NFL players.
How do you violate an NFL code as a minor? If that is the case there would not be enough players in the league to start the season..

What are you guys talking about? This is much bigger than Spygate and Pacman's multiple offense record. I used to give Goodell praise for the way he came in and had a zero tolerance policy and suspended guys who needed to be disciplined, but now he's getting ridiculous. He let's the Pats off easy, then Pacman is going to be reinstated; otherwise, why would Goodell let him practice? And now he wants to go after Bradshaw for having a few drinks as a minor? Yeah, I'd say he's got his priorities straight.

The real funny thing is, this horrible offence bradshaw commited against man and society was legal when I was 18. He was probably older than that when he commited this horrible atrocity ...what a joke, take it from Ted (i mean dead ) eraa, don't drink, unless it's scotch.. eraa

30 days seems harsh.

".... 30-day sentence for violating terms of a probation stemming from an undisclosed juvenile offense."

Everybody is missing the point here! He violated the terms of his probation! That's why he is in jail!

Does anybody know what juvenile crime was he convicted of? No! So, stop the speculation and focus on the facts: he violated the terms of his probation. Stop the speculation!

June 21, 2008  10:06 AM ET

Did they check his permanent record?

June 21, 2008  10:30 AM ET

What? Another negative Giants story? Where are those fans who claimed this kind of stuff only happens to other teams, (read Dallas)? All quiet on the New Jersey front now, huh?

The above was intended to mock the "bandwagon" Giants fans who spout crap all the time. In no way is it targeted towards the real fans (50year, Devs, etc). More like "I is the Man".

What violates the NFL code is serving a jail sentence as a member of an NFL team, regardless of when the infraction occurred. He obviously came into the NFL with this probation hanging over him and I'd be willing to bet that the team/league was well aware of it and, if he violated it, he was subject to NFL rules punishment as well.

Two things that stick out to me about this story. First it would be silly to suspend him for this. Second it is not like he is a huge asset to the Giants. They still have Jacobs and Ward.

Giants' Bradshaw jailed in southwest Virginia

By HANK KURZ Jr. ??? 16 hours ago

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) ??? New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw is serving a 30-day jail sentence on a probation violation in southwest Virginia, his legal counsel said Thursday.

Charles A. Stacy said in a news release that Bradshaw, who reported to the Abingdon Regional Jail on Sunday, is being held on a violation from the Tazewell County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Stacy said the underlying charge stems from an offense that occurred while Bradshaw, a native of Bluefield, was a juvenile.

"Mr. Bradshaw has not been charged with any offense since being drafted by the New York Giants and is eager to put this matter behind him and begin training for next season," Stacy said in the statement.

His office declined to release any additional information.

Bradshaw, a key player in the Giants' Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots last February, reported to the jail under a court order and is being held without bond, jail employee Stephen Clear said.

Bradshaw, who played in college at Marshall, rushed for 45 yards in New York's 17-14 victory against the Patriots. He also recovered a fumble.

The Giants said they were aware of Bradshaw's situation.

"This situation is not the result of any recent incident," the team said. "It stems from an issue that occurred prior to Ahmad being drafted by the Giants. Beyond that, we have no further comment."

After a dazzling career at Graham High School, where he rushed for 5,265 yards and 92 touchdowns, Bradshaw was recruited by and originally enrolled at Virginia, but was dismissed from the Cavaliers football team without ever playing a game after pleading guilty to resisting arrest and underage drinking, both misdemeanors, and being placed on probation.

He rushed for almost 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in three seasons at Marshall after joining the team as a walk-on, but also had another arrest, this time for allegedly stealing a PlayStation 2 video game.

He pleaded guilty in that case to misdemeanor petit larceny and was given two years probation. A 12-month jail sentence was suspended.

I'm sure he's guilty of something

Everyone is avoiding the big question which is: What did he do RECENTLY to violate the terms of his probation?

It would be very easy to be critical of your remarks since you take great pleasure in criticizing every other team's faults but I WON'T !!!

Goodell find out about offense thru fortune cookie!

June 21, 2008  11:50 AM ET

He's in jail. Whether you like it or not, he's served more jail time than Pacman has. Goodell still needs to do something.

June 21, 2008  01:07 PM ET

Hooah05!! ..I suppose that makes some sense as to why they would care now. As far as the guy who said it did not matter because Jacobs was their number one runner, I would disagree. Bradshaw led the team in rushing in the play offs and is their best runner, my opinion.
Hope this gets behind him someday, he seems like a good kid..

Wow Giants seems to be steam rolling down the hill

Go ahead and criticize me, I can take it, but do it for something legit, not something like this. Think about it, this stems from a juvenile charge, meaning he wasn't in the NFL yet. Also, once he is no longer a juvenile (age 18), his juvenile record is expunged. I'm curious to see what he did to violate the terms of his probation and when he violated it. Remember, the judicial system is so backed up, his violation could've been, and most likely was, before he became pro and they're just getting to his case now. And trust me when I say the judicial system is backed up by years.

Oh, and if you don't think I criticize anything the Giants do, you're sadly mistaken. I already voiced my opinion about Plaxico and Shockey and what they're doing, so try to come up with another way to take a shot at me; otherwise, go pound salt.
