Zambrano upset with Cubs

Carlos Zambrano insisted he was only "a little bit" upset he was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a minor shoulder strain, though he stormed off after being told the news and a loud banging was heard in the shower area moments later. "That's the reaction you'd want from him," general manager Jim Hendry said. "He wasn't real pleased with me right away, but we talked through it, and by [Sunday] I'll be telling him it's a chance to work on his hitting." Though Zambrano's shoulder problem was described as a "minor strain," Hendry and the Cubs' medical staff decided he would benefit physically and mentally from a two-week rest."

Huge desire to break the curse or temperamental jackazz? You make the call ...

He's intense. He's an intense competitor. He's not an egomaniac like A-Fraud or Pedro. He'll be ok.

This would actually be a legit story if in fact Zambrano had a calm reaction to being put on the DL. It's Zambrano you morons, what did you expect?
But in this age of out-of-control, irresponsible sports journalism led by former high school nerds looking for revenge after being picked on by jocks, every breath, fart, word, movement, and date on an off-day becomes a headline. This "story" here is another case-in-point.

The Cubs are smart to put him on the DL. He's a dumbasz for **** and moaning about it.

June 22, 2008  11:16 AM ET

I'll take my best pitcher getting upset about taking time off any day of the week. Of course it's the smart and safe thing to do. Of course he is 100 times more valuable in September and Lord willing October than he is in June and July. But don't knock him for being a guy who asks for the ball anytime, anywhere. The Cubs are good without him....they could be great with him.

**** a team being cautious with an injury this is a first

Apparently certain people didn't read the entire article. Not surprising, seeing as how many just read the very small blurb on this site. Read this key point: "After his initial reaction, Zambrano conceded the move was made in his best interests.
"Even if I don't want to go on the DL, I have to accept it," he said. 'It's what's best for the team and best for me. We don't want to have a problem with my shoulder. We're giving it rest, and I think it's the best for everybody.'"

Of course, this is also the fault of FN. That article title is more than a little misleading. But I have come to expect this from FN now. Sensationalism and exaggeration is rampant throughout this site.

looks like he just took a dump on the mound.

Field Marshall Sunny Day

yeah. And didn't like the smell.

He is a head case, to be sure. As long as he can focus on baseball and channel it. (In any case Cubs need to deal for another pitcher right quick.)

"Aye! Dios Mio!"

The guy isn't "intense" -- he's a jerk.
I'm a Cub fan, but I have to say that I would prefer to win without him.
People should ask his former door staff and his former neighbors what they think of the guy.
Happiness is seeing a moving van taking his stuff out of your condo building.

lol at the pic. the cubs just need to fine him everytime he says something stupid. hopefully that will shut him up.

June 22, 2008  05:59 PM ET

this dude just amazes me sometimes!

June 22, 2008  06:16 PM ET

Can't blame the Cubs for what they are paying him. Lose him for three or four games is far better than losing him for the season.
