Tigers interested in Garcia

The Tigers appear interested in Freddy Garcia to shore up a rotation that includes two rookies and will be without Jeremy Bonderman and Dontrelle Willis for an extended period. Garcia, 32, was 1-5, 5.90 in 17 starts with Philadelphia before undergoing shoulder surgery last year but has a good track record in the AL Central, where he was 40-21 with the White Sox from 2004 through 2006.

Can Garcia return to form enough to be a 5th starter? I think its certainly worth the risk. I just can't see Bonine as the long-term answer, at least not this season yet.

He would be a good signing for almost any team, as long as they can get him cheap.

Well this is TOTAL desparation !!! Better to bring back Jack Morris than Garcia - older but his arm still works !!1

June 22, 2008  09:04 PM ET

Freddie has had arm and other issues... worth a risk if cheap but he is long past his prime.

no one has a crystal ball for this stuff, but everyone knows how thin pitching is, and he is only 32, and not all together blown out. Like ya all have said if cheap, go for it,,,

32 but has had allot of throwing issues... sometimes the arm is much older than your age. Fenando was great young but when he hit his late 20's and 30's..washed up.

Freddie "Cheeseburger" Garcia?

June 23, 2008  08:00 AM ET

The problem is that everyone wants pitching and will give practically anyone a try (Ponson) so getting a pitcher with a track record "cheap" even if he is trying to over come health issues is not likely.

Ouch! As someone who has watch Garcia for a few years, let me just say Garcia for Gavin Floyd has been a GREAT deal. Garcia has lost it
