Rangers want to keep Jagr
Glen Sather yet again pledged his affection for Jaromir Jagr Saturday. And with just 10 days remaining until Jagr can hit the NHL's open market, the Rangers' general manager is at least exploring ways to keep him from getting there. Sather met again with agent Pat Brisson here in Ottawa Thursday. And after reassuring one another about the depth of their interest in keeping Jagr in a Rangers sweater, Sather and Brisson discussed the frameworks of two possible contracts.

The Rangers need Jagr. He is still a major force and I think would like to stay with the Rangers. The dollar factor should be interesting though. I wonder what Slats has cooked up for JJ?

He was great in the playoffs, no questioning that. I just wonder about his mental state in the regular season. But I too believe he'll pick the glory of the NHL over going back to Europe.

Jagr will still produce in the regular season...don't worry. He doesn't need to win the scoring titles...He will be worth every penny Sather gives him to the Rangers and he is always a threat when he is on the ice. If Avery thinks he is going to get one nickel that would otherwise go to Jagr....hahahahahahaha

I never liked Jagr and I want him out of the NHL ASAP, but it depends on the money--he's probably the greediest hockey player I can think of.

Yea I've come to the conclusion that I don't care about Avery at this point. They just need to sign Jagr to one or two years. Hopefully 2.
htown, would you take a paycut at your job so they can hire more people and be more productive? Sure he's greedy like most professional athletes, but 7 million a year would be a bargain for a player like Jagr nowadays.

Jagr's off years are better than Sundin's resurgence year...at 7 million...I'd take Jags any day of the week...dressing room issues aside. He has matured alot.

I agree with BGM, 7 mil. is too much. and otherone..I would take a paycut if it meant I could get a shot at the Cup. I'd rather stay with the Rangers for $5mil than go play in columbus for 7mil. Honestly, $5mil is plenty of money, seeing as most people make like $50,000

I quite agree. Sundin could take superstar lessons from Jaromir. Sure he can be aloof, but he works hard & produces. Baun-ded is correct. His least productive years were better than Sundin's best. Of course he had 114 points with the Nordiques. But that's ancient history. At 34, he scored 124 points. At 35, he scored 96. And at 36, 71. That's impressive. He can still be at least a point a game player. After a slow start, he got better in the second half & was sensational in the playoffs.
