Ozzie's shot at Cubs outfielders

Manager Ozzie Guillen was quick to admit his White Sox got their tails collectively kicked Saturday in an 11-7 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field. But Guillen wasn't forthcoming in his praise of the Cubs for their acquisition of Jim Edmonds, who became the just third Cubs player to hit two home runs in an inning when he did it in the fourth. "He just had a good day," Guillen said. "I don't want to promote the guy who's just hitting [.238 and stuff]. He just had a good day. Good for them. I think I'd rather have him out there than [ Alfonso] Soriano."

As a Padres fan, who loathes Jim Edmonds, I'm hearing ya Ozzie! I hope you're right...

June 22, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Ozzie just has no class. He will throw anyone to include players and coaches from other teams as well as is own under the bus. Instead of worrying about his team he decides he has to take shots at the Cubs players and Wrigley Field. Hey Ozzie, At least people can walk around Wrigleyville without fear of being shot!

June 22, 2008  10:42 AM ET

San Diego gave up on Edmonds too quickly. He didn't play much last year, and needed more at bats. He's a good fit for the Cubs.

June 22, 2008  11:17 AM ET

T & R, why "outfielders" in the plural?

According to this article excerpt, Ozzie Guillen is taking a "shot" at only one Cubs outfielder.

That said, why is this story even on the board at all, other than to qualify as this week's obligatory Ozzie Guillen obnoxious comment?

June 22, 2008  11:27 AM ET

Why does Major League Baseball continue to allow his unacceptable behavior? He is truly a disgrace

June 22, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Ozzie Guillen is the biggest idiot in all of sports. He has a vulgar mouth and continues to show terrible sportsmanship. Did Guillen hit 2 HR's his entire career? Let a lone in the same inning. haha. This guy is truly a loser.

June 22, 2008  12:54 PM ET

Well, to be fair jayhawkfan, off the top of my head, I can think of at least three people who are bigger idiots than Guillen. Ron Turner, Matt Millen, and Dusty "walks clog up the bases" Baker have all proven themselves as some of the greatest dolts in the history of sports. Don't get me wrong: I can't stand Guillen and his attitude. I don't just hate him as a Cubs fan. I hate him as a Chicagoan, and want him gone. My city will be far better off without this jackass.

That aside, Guillen is wrong, as usual. Yes, Edmonds wasn't exactly the best hitter before he came here. But ever since becoming a Cub, his numbers increased exponentially. Where he was hitting .178/.265/.233 for the Friars, he is now hitting .311/.358/.511 for us. His OPS as a Cub is .939, as opposed to his .498 OPS as a Friar. As a Cubs fan, I hate the Redbirds more than I do the South Siders. But I must admit that this former Redbird has slowly shown me that he has something left in the tank, and I have been warming up to him. He obviously won't keep this up; he turns 38 this Friday, and his age will catch up. But for us to get him this cheap and for him to produce for us is great.

June 22, 2008  01:27 PM ET

"Hee-haw" from the most overrated manager and biggest j ackass in MLB. He makes the worst managerial pitching mistakes: Contreras is getting shelled yesterday by the Cubs and he leaves him in. (The guy, who is OLD, was way out of gas.) This is certainly not the first time Guillen as done this. The day before he yanks Danks, even though the guy is having a great outing. Sox could go a lot farther with a better manager. Even Daffy Duck. Guillen is obnoxious and stupid.

June 22, 2008  01:29 PM ET

PS Can't wait until the next blowup between Guillen and Williams. Kenny will NOT be thrown under the bus twice.

Wow you all are a bunch of idiots because you know nothing about baseball and are very biased against the Sox.

Just because Ozzie speaks the truth and doesn't mind the media getting on him doesn't mean he has no class, the only reason other people don't speak their mind is because they fear the media will jump on them. Don't you realize everything he says is true. And all he said about Edmonds is that he'd rather play against him then Soriano any day and that he didn't care for Wrigley and these other older parks and he feels they should be update. And I don't know what you mean by fearing of being Shot on the South Side when I'm pretty sure three professional athletes got robbed at gun point on the north side of Chicago.

Why does Major League Baseball continue to allow his unacceptable behavior? He is truly a disgrace

Varoadrunner | 06/22/08, 11:27 AM

The reason Ozzie hasn't been suspended is because he decides to answer the stupid question the media gives him. I've never once heard him tell the media to skip a question like most people would do, if your going to give him an idiotic question I hope you don't expect a happy response. Maybe they should start suspending reports when they ask retarded **** questions.

Since when is it bad sportsmanship to admit they got their **** kicked and didn't congratulate an opposing player because he felt he just and a good day. Sorry I didn't know you had to praise a player for hitting two home runs in an inning. At least he was the first to do that....not.

Maybe the city would be better if the Cubs would quit whining about all the reasons and curses that they can't win a World Series. It's the Billy Goat, it's the BLack Cat, it's Steve Bartman fault, I see no different between Uribe diving in the stands and making the catch then Moises Alou jumping towards the crowd and missing it. Good teams would have made the next play, oh sorry Gonzalez let it go between his legs or went out and won game7, but no the Chubs would rather whine and cry and blame there fans.

You know, Sox fans will always be the "younger brother" in Chicago. Won a World Series, but apparently can't believe they're any good because they get no respect on the North Shore. So friggin' what? The thing is, most Cubs fans do not care about the Sox, It's Sox fans who are crazed. What an inferiority complex! And Guillen completely epitomizes this sense of inferiority. Hey, Ozzie, I got news. You ARE inferior, you ovenstuffer.

June 22, 2008  03:49 PM ET

Ozzie's a punk **** b1tch. i was prepared to dislike Edmonds, but he's hitting .311 with the Cubs. Go Cubs Go

June 22, 2008  03:53 PM ET

Ozzie is an arrogant ****!! He can't stand not being in the press and it will always be all about him. These quotes aren't by chance...he knows the press eats it up.

You idiot. You think true Cubs fans and the team itself uses a damn curse to explain why we haven't won a WS? Learn the difference between true fans and wagon jumpers.

Oh, and you have proven that you are not a knowledgeable Sox fan. Instead of actually backing up your argument, you resort to attacks. There are some good Sox fans here who know their stuff. You are not one of them. Until you learn to grow up, you are not worth my time.

Have a nice day.
