Did poor series hurt Billups' market

Chauncey Billups is a free agent, and after his poor series the talk is he'll have no serious option but to return to the Pistons, and probably at substantially less money than he was considering a month ago.

Yeah right! Where do these rumors come from. Billups is a GREAT point guard with championship experience. Any team would be lucky to have him. I wish my Knicks could get him and get rid of some of the crap that we have.

June 4, 2007  09:13 AM ET

I don't see it as Billups' fault that Flip Saunders couldn't get them into something better offensively. Saunders admitted the Cleveland guards give Detroit trouble due to their size. Yet, Flip continued to have them walk the ball up to run sets against a good defense. And that offense was usually stagnant going to matchup basketball in which the Pistons thrive on team ball. It's amazing that any coach would be outdone by Mike Brown!? That's a serious problem getting outcoached by Brown.

Agreed rodecker76, Billups is a great guard, this rumour is ridiculous

June 4, 2007  10:10 AM ET

ha poor series without him the pistons would of got rocked by more points

June 4, 2007  11:29 AM ET

LAKERS should SIGN BILLUPS!!!
They need to spend money, SALARY Cap can't be an issue now.

June 4, 2007  11:49 AM ET

if kobe stays a laker, i dont see him and billups working well together. billups is clutch and loves the last shot-

June 4, 2007  12:35 PM ET

But KOBE is more clutch and makes the last shot!

June 4, 2007  01:06 PM ET

Go to the Lakers. The Lakers need to trade for Jermaine O'neal, sign Billups, and therefore, make Kobe Bryant happy again. Imagine:
pg---Billups/ Farmar
sg---Bryant/ Vujacic
sf---Walton/ Evans
pf---O'neal/ Turiaf
C---Brown/ Mihm, after resigning

June 4, 2007  01:10 PM ET

I dont think it hurt Billups value at all.Teams like the lakers and rockets need a point guard who can take them to another level in the playoffs. He would be a better fit for the rockets because they have a better team than the lakers. If the rockets sign Billups the only thing they will need is a low post powerforward who can score on the block and pass though double teams and the rockets will be a championship team.

June 4, 2007  01:21 PM ET

Portland, LA Lakers, Dallas, Washington, and Cleveland would all be great fits for Billups. His value didn't drop in the last series. He is a proven team leader.

June 4, 2007  02:00 PM ET

Ummm, sorry to say, but his value did drop, significantly. He lost millions of dollars with each passing missed shot and turnover. He's a very good player, but he'll be overpaid next season, and don't believe for one second that Detroit will match the highest bidder. Rip Hamilton is, BY FAR, the best player on that team, and I would give him the last shot any day of the week over Billups. Billups is the perfect fit for a sorry, overpaid Knicks team. Why don't we just stick him back there with Ronny "pantsless" Francis and Sorry Starbury....He'd make a great fit in the backcourt with the other severely overpaid death of a once great franchise.

June 4, 2007  02:15 PM ET

Tayshaun Prince value dropped, Rasheed Wallace value dropped, Rip Hamilton's dropped. Lebron James value priceless. Go Boobie, GO GO.

June 4, 2007  03:48 PM ET

His value did not drop what the hell are you guys smoking or sniffing.Funny the same people who is dissing Billups are the same people who would be praising him if they beat the cavs.First of all those guys just ran out of gas the fact that they made it to the eastern confrence finals five years in a row and to the championship twice.Commonsence should tell people that they played the most playoff games in a five year spand since the lakers in the 80's.Long regular season 82 games they played over 90 plus playoff games in five plus years come on give these guys a break.

June 4, 2007  05:16 PM ET

good point mizzle. Half of the teams in the league would consider Billups an upgrade at the point. If Detroit lowballs their bid, someone else will pay to get him . Point guards with rings are rare. One bad series won't make any difference in the end.

June 4, 2007  05:34 PM ET

Chauncey Billups is a great point guard. I think what would be best for him would be to join the Houston Rockets, all he will have to do is change his jersey number. If he joins the Rockets, and they can get Reshard Lewis at power forward you will have a championship team, and even possibly back to back to back. If we cant get Chauncey Billups, Mike James might be the best bet.

Center- Yao Ming
Power Forward- Reshard Lewis
Small Forward- Tracy Mcgrady
Shooting Guard-Luther Head
Point Guard-Chauncey Billups

I had seconds thoughts about wanting Billups on the Mavs for about a second.

Wow! Back to back to back championships for the Rockets and all they have to do is sign the two most sought after free agents this off season (assuming Billups actually opts out of his last year). Well... If you did get Lewis and Billups and paid them what they would be making had they stayed with their respective teams (even though it's much more likely that they'd be looking for larger contracts) then the Rocket's salary would only be about $78 million or roughly $25 million over the salary cap.

P.S. It's Rashard.

June 4, 2007  07:05 PM ET

Chauncey is most likely going to resign with the Pistons but a sign and trade deal to the Nuggets for Nene or Kenyon Martin make Denver a title contender. Denver finally have a true point guard.

June 4, 2007  08:24 PM ET

they're all going west lets face it eastern teams dont want to pay for quality players cause its a weak a.s.s conference..were you can reach the playoffs easily

June 4, 2007  09:36 PM ET

First off Billups is a product of the Pistons and he would not fair as well on alot of other teams, He is not good enough to be the star on a team and career them. Billups should resign with the Pistons and I hope he does so the cavs and lebron can keep making him and the loser pistons cry every year when they get beat.

Also to Dre you are out of your mind if you think the Nuggets are going to get Billups and for Nene and Martin come on man, Martin might not even play again you think the Pistons are that stupid.

Jay620 you are very silly too, look at the salaries the Rockets barley have enough money to pay for all the ben **** patches for McGrady's hurt back.
Not just Billups but Rashard too, please the Rockets need to trade McGrady and get someone with some heart and the will to play and come up big when it counts.

Also the Lakers have no one to trade that any team wants besides Bynum who is not very a proven player yet, and as long as the Lakers have Kobe they will be in the playoffs are close to it, so there 1st round pick will be not great and not worth getting a Billups or a JO.
