Sakic asks Avs for more time

Joe Sakic met with Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere earlier this week, and told him he is not ready to make a decision yet whether to play for a 20th NHL season. Avs vice president Jean Martineau said the team does not believe Sakic will decide in the next few days, and said it could be another week or so before he does. "We told him to take as much time as he needs," Martineau said. If Sakic, who turns 39 on July 7, decides to retire, the Avs would presumably like to know before the free agent period starts to seek a possible replacement on the open market.

If Sakic wants the Team bus to wait for him...It will. Rightfully so!

Yeah, and he would never tell his team that he'll play less than full out, even as old as he is. I was thinking about that exchange over Jagr the other day; could you imagine Hull, Howe or any of those guys who were the top echelon players of their day saying that? I understand the "saving yourself for the playoffs bit" but still, it just bugs me.

I think he'll play one more year. Maybe Montreal as they seem to be wanting to go retro for their upcoming anniversairy.Just think the habs 1st line could be a combination of Sundin,Sakic and might as well bring Beliveau back too. Add Orr on D and well theres your cup winner. Just need Cherry to coach.

There is only one reason why this will not be another Anaheim Gong Show, And that is only because Sakis has something those to dont! its called Class and respect for the game! what Selanne and Niedemeyer did was classles, adn deceitful! Why would You make your team struggle while you are out watching it all!

Like Baun-ded said, said, the BUS WILL WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe Sakic, being the toally class person that he is, will not make the Avs wait an unreasonable amount of time. And the Avs, likewise, will grant him the time that he requests. Personally, I hope that he does return for one more season.
