Rutgers kept rolling toward its first Top 25 recruiting haul when they landed Paulsboro's Gerald Hodges, regarded as one of South Jersey's top stars in the Class of 2009. The 6-3, 210-pounder with 4.5 speed played quarterback and safety, and could play safety or become a weakside linebacker at RU. Hodges -- who chose RU over Penn State, West Virginia, Iowa, Maryland and Syracuse --was projected as the third-best weakside linebacker in the country by scout.com, and is the Scarlet Knights' sixth four-star recruit according to that service.

I have seen this kid Hodges wrestle. And while being quite a chiseled physical specimen in a wrestling singlet over-powering a majority of his opponents in one the nation's best H.S. wrestling states doesn't fully equate to being D-I football ready, this looks like another huge verbal for Schiano. Obviously he can play some football too, huh? By the way, this story in the Star Ledger also continues to strengthen another tired topic in college football right now. Check yet again, the Monday T&R about Paterno hurting Penn State recruiting...

Good job by Schiano.

Can someone inform me on Schiano's background? How does this guy recruit so well at Rutgers? I don't know much about Rutgers either, but I heard it isn't exactly Disneyland for football players. I'm just lost and behind on this phenomenon. Help?

Schiano spent many years in Miami coaching for the U. I believe he worked under Jimmy, Erickson, Davis and ****. He is a native of NJ so he knows the players and the east coast but he learned a lot from some of the masters of recruiting (Johnson and Davis). I say Butch Davis because the Miami team that won the 2001 National Championship was coached by Coker but were recruited by Davis. Davis left to become the Cleveland Browns coach and is now back in college at North Carolina.

someone explain to me how this kid could be projected to be the 3rd best weak side linebacker in the country yet has not played linebacker before...are there no weak side linebackers playing in the country right now or do they all suck?
