Sabathia, Harden on Cubs radar?

Trading season is only about a month away, and suddenly Alfonso Soriano's broken hand is looking as much like a timely opportunity to showcase potential bargaining chips as a cause for concern. Matt Murton and Eric Patterson platooned in left during the first weekend of the City Series, combining to go 7-for-11 with two walks in the three games. Carlos Zambrano's injury and the recent hitting of Jim Edmonds makes it more likely that GM Jim Hendry will pursue pitching -- C.C. Sabathia and Rich Harden top the list -- than another left-handed bat.

C.C.'s got a decent lefty bat... Maybe the Cubbies could hit him 5th and kill 2 birds with one stone.

I have to use this post to comment on what I saw yesterday. David Ortiz wearing a shirt that said I love black people with the heart shaped as africa. I have no problem with it, but If any white person had a shirt that said I love white people, he would be racist and suspended and the whole deal. My best friend is black and we talk about stuff like this all the time and he agrees with me on this, I just wish it wasnt like this, just thought I would post this hear and people would read it.

The Cubs would do well to stay clear of Harden. He's too much like Prior, talented but always hurt. Sabathia, on the other hand, is a young ace that the Cubs could afford for years. Can you imagine having Zambrano and Sabathia at the front of your rotation for the next five years or so? Too, the playoffs are about having front-line pitchers to shut down other teams. After Zambrano, the Cubs have no one that strikes fear into any team right now.

Let's see...how about we give them Murton, Patterson, Pie, and Hill or Marsh for Sabathia? I would take that trade.

as a huge cub and indians fan, if they are getting rid of CC i hope he goes to the cubbies!

Cleveland isn't out of the running for the playoffs yet and people have them getting rid of their ace. Granted he's a FA after the season but I think the front office in Cleveland have every intention on trynig to re-sign him so unless the deal is HUGE for him from the Cubs, don't look for this to happen. We have a strong, young OF that is doing a good job this year so we really don't need Pie, or Murton or any outfielders for that matter, especially to give up Sabathia for. So unless the Cubbies are willing to give up their young catcher, which we really don't need with Martinez eventually making it back or someone like Derrick Lee to play first then I think everyone can relax about a trade sending CC to the Cubs. The team wants to work out a deal and so does CC. He's said he won't negotiate until the season is over. If they trade him beforehand, how can that happen? And for more OF's from Chicago...hahahaha, I don't think so.

With the wild card teams are in it far longer than they used to be, so nly short sighted management salary dump this early or possibly at all.

Why would you trade Patterson after this weekend? Murton, Pie and Hill, yes. Patterson, not at this stage of things with Soriano out.

Tell it like it is

Dempster is getting to that stage - fast. And check the saves-rate for Wood. He looked like a killer on Saturday.

Murton...don't need him/ Patterson...don't need him/Pie...don't need him. Hill and Marsh can't make up for the absences of Sabathia.

See, this is the way trades work. You have one team that has a need. In this case the need of a starting pitcher. The other team also has to be in the need for something. Ironically enough the indians also need pitching because Carmona is on the DL, Westbrook is on the DL and other than CC and Lee no one else can seem to perform. Especially their middle relievers and closer. Which Chicago really doesn't have one that is any better. So it's a good thing you aren't in Clevelands front office because if you took this trade the people in Cleveland as well as myself would run you out of town.

A killer? He faced one guy who's hitting under .240 and got him to strike out on a high fastball to hold a four-run lead. I get that you're on a Cubbie high, and as a Sox fan, I would be the same way (although I'm inclined to completely hate you for it), but let's not read a great deal into Wood's performance on Saturday.

He's pitching well, but he's not exactly Mo Rivera.
