Two days after soaking in the love of the fans in his basketball home, Sam Cassell bathed in the admiration of the fans in his real hometown. And after spending most of Saturday evening as the center of attention at a celebrity charity game at the Towson Center, Cassell proclaimed that neither Boston, Baltimore nor the NBA had seen the last of him in uniform. "I'm playing next year, playing my 16th year," Cassell said without hesitation, minutes after the conclusion of the game put on by his friend and fellow Dunbar alumnus Kurk Lee, benefiting Lee's foundation. "After winning a championship, it's just so hard to walk away from that," Cassell said.

I hope he's not back on the Celtics. Everytime Doc put him in, he'd bring up the ball and immediately look for his own shot. Seriously. I have never seen a player come in for 3 minute spurts and jack up that many shots.

If he was 29 year old Sam Cassell, that wouldn't be bad. But he's 39 year old Sam Cassell, heaving up brick after brick.

Bring back Eddie House, Celtics. At least he cares enough to pass, hustle, and play defense.

Man that's disappointing. I came into here to say "E.T. isn't ready to phone home yet." And someone already beat me to the punch in calling the dude E.T. Booooo!

June 23, 2008  11:21 AM ET

he's a great bench player and presence for the celtics and i hope he remains with the team. the most amazing thing is his energy. he'll do well wherever he goes as long as he stays healthy.

June 23, 2008  11:37 AM ET

I say keep him, but don't pay him.

June 23, 2008  11:50 AM ET

Well he needs to earn a ring, because he got this one by jumping on the express just before it got to the station.

June 23, 2008  12:06 PM ET

He EARNED 2 in Houston.....

June 23, 2008  12:12 PM ET

He has two that he earned with the Rocket duing the 90's

June 23, 2008  12:14 PM ET

at least he didnt pursue a career as a model

June 23, 2008  12:29 PM ET

Why not?

June 23, 2008  01:07 PM ET

Sure why not? but not with the Celtics. He's too selfish a player. Used to be a bigtime shooter, but he's lost that. He plays zero defense, and if he's unable to use his IQ to create shots for others, he is really worthless.
Even I can throw brink after brick, and connect on a few of them. Boston needs another backup PG for Rondo, some maybe like Lue or Vaughn or A.Johnson

He EARNED 2 in Houston.....

He didn't earn this one.

Lets see if his body holds up for the full season. Giving him more money at his age will be the "death" of the organization when the CELTS can use the money to hold on to their younger players.

June 23, 2008  01:55 PM ET

hey sam u aint got nothin on BOB horry, 7 rings since your rockets days

June 23, 2008  05:36 PM ET

Well I think Cassel will play more mins next season because he will be familar with the offense playing with the team for a whole season.

June 23, 2008  05:37 PM ET

I agree bwin21, I hope if he comes back, it is not with the Celtics. I like Eddie House, but he isn't a true PG. I think a priority for Ainge will be to bring in another PG to go along with Rajon. Sam just didn't seem like a good fit, although he had his moments. I'd like to see them bring back the 5 starters, Davis,Posey, House and then fill in around them to improve. I'm assuming that PJ is going to retire again....

sam sucks. he throws up shots like its shootaround. he thinks that every time he touches the ball he can shoot it. it would be one thing if he could take it but he cant. play for the pistons the celtics dont need that garbage
