Agent: Melo not going anywhere

Carmelo Anthony's agent reiterated Sunday he has received assurances the Nuggets won't trade the star forward but said Anthony still wants the team to make a public announcement. Agent Calvin Andrews, though, isn't counting on any such statement to be made. "(Anthony is) just tired of the rumors that are out there," Andrews said in a phone interview with the Rocky Mountain News. "He's just frustrated with the rumors. But NBA teams usually don't make public statements about trade rumors. He just wants (the Nuggets) to go public. But that's not their policy."

Of course.
If the Nuggets trade Melo before trading Iverson, their team weakens immediately.
However, Iverson has planeed to stay in Denver for one more year. If I were the Denver GM, I would therefore keep Melo for one more year as well. After trading Iverson, more cap room and options would open up for possibly trading Melo.

the denver line-up talent-wise and on paper should at least reach the west finals or even the finals. but they failed to go out of the first round year after year. i say nuggets GM should put the entire roster on the trading block.

melo is not the ideal guy to build around to make a championship caliber team.

June 23, 2008  07:23 AM ET

if they can get a true franchise player out there, then trade his lazy butt. if not get rid of iverson and try to get some draft picks or a better complement of players to fit Karls system.

June 23, 2008  07:52 AM ET

Carmelo wants the Nuggets to make a public announcement?

How about this...

"The Denver Nuggets will not trade Carmelo Anthony...unless he continues to ingest large quantities of marijuana, drive the streets and highways of Colorado in a drunken stupor and, in general, conduct himself like a jack ****."

June 23, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Face it Melo detractors, he is a draw. Help win a gold Carmelo and maybe that will shut up some of the doubters.

June 23, 2008  08:40 AM ET

The reason why they aren't moving him is because the right deal hasnt came along. WHERE ARE THE BULLS???????????????????

You are going to draft Rose which will make Hinrich the odd person out. So why not offer Hinrich, DENG, Gooden, and future picks for Melo and Camby

Denver gets a legit point guard and a scoring forward and Chicago has

Melo, Rose, Camby, Hughes, and Noah in starting line-up NICE

come back to the state of NY...melo. your game will fit in nicely with d'antoni's vision of 95% offense and 5% defense.

Hey- why does it always have to come back to knick jokes...........lol

Jay L, i have to disagree a bit. Iverson has carried a less talented 76ers team to the playoff and finals. I knows he's now in the west, but I think the team will stay in playoff contention...just iverson will have to go back to doing what he does instead coexisting with a fellow star player.

Does anyone else find it kind of funny that the Pistons are talking to DENVER about trading for Carmelo Anthony? He was the logical choice in the 03 draft after LeBron....and they could have had him without having to trade one of their main pieces ( Billups/hamilton/ prince )

Help win a gold? You mean like he helped the U.S. win a gold at the 2006 World Basketball Championships? Oh, that's right - they had to settle for a bronze with Carmel sulking on the bench like a little thumb-sucking baby.

You're right. If all the Nuggets want to do is "draw" fans, without ever contending for a title, then Carmelo is the perfect player to accomplish that.

The Sixers did that with Iverson for 10+ years, and look what it got them. If you don't care about winning then by all means hold on to your "draw", and experience the joys of losing, run-and-gun, no-defense basketball.

Only an idiot would wish for such a fate for their team.

You're not an idiot are you?

actually the logical choice (in hindsight ) would've been Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh but AT THE TIME, it was pretty much a given Carmelo would be better than Darko.

Hey, ***hole. How many teams have won NBA titles in the the last 10 years? Not every team gets the gold. I suppose now every team that hasn't won a title is just wasting their time. Might as well call it a day. By the way 2006 TEAM WON THE GOLD! And in 2006 Melo hardly got to play in 2004, when Larry Brown coached US team to a Bronze. Neither did Lebron. That says something about the coach more then the players. It's about competing, Melo is a great player and it takes the right combination of players and coaching and luck to win and NBA title. Just because a player hasn't reached the pinnacle doesn't mean that player or his fans are garbage. You keep talent and build around that, bottom line. Boston won with Talent.

you are right. i didn't like the d'antoni hire for the knicks. i prefer a defensive oriented coach at the knicks helm. but he is here now and i gotta live with it. i think melo's style of play fits right in with what d'antoni teams have been known for. lets face it the knicks aren't even close to a championship type team and i don't think they will be with d'antoni; but the guy does know how to put pts on the scoreboard.

Trade Melo and AI.

The Nuggets will be stuck with a team that is not good enough to win it all and not bad enough to get high draft picks. Denver can trade those two pieces for a superstar and some great role players.

Maxwell, you're not nearly as informed as you think you are.

Final standings from the 2006 FIBA World Basketball Championship - 1. Spain; 2. Greece; 3. U.S.

Learn how to use the internet to make yourself better informed, instead of relying on convserations you overhead while getting drunk at the local pool hall of beer joint. It'll spare you the embarrassment of making a fool of yourself in discussion boards such as this one.

Google "2006 FIBA World Championship" if you doubt the validity of what I've posted.
